Would you trade Kidd for Marion?

Post#1 » by SimonFish » Sat Oct 25, 2008 3:04 am

A random question by a random NBA fan.

Kidd for Marion...(and perhaps Banks)?

1 Terry/Banks/Barrea
2 JoHo/Wright/Green
3 Marion/Stack/Williams/George
4 Dirk/Bass/Singleton
5 Damp/Diop

I would rather trade Howard for Marion, but I would still do the Kidd for Marion + Banks trade...

I have no interest in Marion whatsoever if Kidd is gone. And hell no to adding Banks to that!

Seriously:

Dampier / Diop
Dirk / Bass / Marion (here?)
Howard / Marion (maybe here?) / Williams / George
Wright / Green / Stack
(who?) / Terry / Banks / Barea

That line up is f'd in all sorts of ways.!

I'd rather let Kidd expire and see him in LA than add Banks.

Your lineup has a PF at the SF spot and a SF at the SG spot. Both are just wrong.

Only in a D'Antoni coached team is Marion a PF, I don't see D'Antoni on the bench do you? Thank goodness! Josh hasn't played the 2 spot much if at all, but a 6'5" maybe 6'6" guy with long arms could definitely fill the spot and work well. He's guarded opposing 2's in the past he can continue to do it more full time.

Also, LOL at trying to put Bass ahead of Marion in any lineup while at the same time trying to say that Wright would start before Marion would. Terry was the starting PG on our finals run, so you're saying he can't play as our starting PG anymore? After all the hype on JET that you've been trying to sell to everyone he's not good enough to start anymore?

You are still a darn fine comedian.

As far as the trade, it might work, but I would have rather seen it happen before training camp than after it. Josh isn't proven at the 2 spot and it would be good to not have on the job training during the season. I think we have a better chance at resigning Kidd to a reasonable 1-2 year contract than we have at resigning Marion to a reasonable contract (his wouldn't need to be a short contract but it would need to be similar to JHo's). Because of that and losing either off the payroll still doesn't get us below the lux tax to replace them, I think I'd rather have Kidd.

What this trade would do, on the other hand, is give us more marketable players for trade. We might be large players at the deadline with this trade. Trading the reupped contract of Marion (that the opposite team orchestrated) and another high quality player nets us a disgruntled superstar.

I think some people who like to quote me and call me a comedian did not even comprehend what I was saying.

Let me put it another way since I failed to convey that in the 1st post....
We don't need a PF/SF when we have plenty at that position already. That same opinion is double by the fact that this guy is about to be 30 (+/-..IDK) and we are all of a sudden jolted in to rebuild mode because Terry/Banks/Barea leads us to the lotto. Terry is good starter, but don't fool yourself...Harris was equally responsible for getting us to the finals. When you have a better PG and Terry could be an awesome backup, why would you provide a logjam at the forward spot to accomodate this downgrade? With both being expirings, I'm not even sure if age would play a role in their trade value this year.

Get it now?

As far as the spot on the depth chart, I was doing it by minute...

Dirk (majority) / Bass (2 most) / Marion (whatever is left)
Howard (Majority) / Marion (2nd most) / George (whatever is left)
btwn the 2 positions, he would have more minutes than Bass would have at only the PF sport.

BTW, he was a PF in a Riley system also.

Totally agree a Kidd/Marion combo is what makes Marion valuable to this team. There's not enough room with Howard on this team without Kidd.

Heat fan here.

Marion is more effective if he has a good PG beside him.

I actually would conider before the season, but I really under-estimated what Kidd can do for us. It's not really Kidd that's the problem, but the team around him. I dont think we are far from a championship with the core of Kidd/Howard/Dirk, but I think the rest of the team is really lacking. The role players either arent good enough or dont fit with what this team needs.
