I know KGB makes a lot of cash, but still don't like the move. We are not deep on the DL whatsoever.

I agree. What happens when Harrell goes down with another injury...
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
In leaving the organization, Gbaja-Biamila issued the following statement: "My nine years as a Green Bay Packer have been a blessing that is beyond words. I thank God for bringing me to this first-class organization and first-class community. During my time here, I've built relationships with a number of people in the Packer family. The front office executives, G.M.s, coaches, past and present players, the enormous support and administrative staff plus the greatest fans in football, all have helped make my time here truly special and I am thankful for that. It has been a very positive experience. I was able to build a family here and grow with a community that I call home. Again, I've been truly blessed. I don't know what my football future holds, but one thing I've realized is that football is more than a game - it's about building relationships and changing lives. One of the commitments I've had throughout my career has been to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and that is something that I intend on doing whether on the field or not. God bless the Green Bay Packers!"
One of the classiest Packers ever.

I really don't see how this helps us, might as well have kept him through seasons end.

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
KGB is a true class act and he has definitely seperated himself from others who have left this year.
Are you people nuts? KGB is an awful football player at this point and clearly at the bottom of the end depth chart. When GB was down to 2 healthy defensive ends it was a raw rookie in Thompson and KGB, Thompson clearly out played him, not even close. This crap about Harrell getting hurt again means nothing, if it happens you then go out and get another DT. The hate Harrell amazes me, you would have thought this kid raped your women or something, give him a chance, he was a great talent in college. KGB is a terrible football player but a great guy, the two need to be separated.

i truly beleive that kgb was making our team worse. he might be a nice guy but he has definitely been the biggest dissappointment every year for the past 4 at least.

He was not reaching the quarterback. It is that simple. He was paid to get to the quarterback, and he wasn't. He is absolutely terrible against the run. Unless he is a rookie that you expect to change, you cannot continue to pay a player like that.
He is a wonderful person, but football is a business, and he was not producing.

Except they still have to pay him if no one claims him in the next 48 hours.

They do not have to pay KGB the entirety of his contract. Not all of his contract was guaranteed money. There may be money penalties, but having dead weight on your roster is a bad call.

I think that most if not all of the remainder of his prorated guaranteed money will count against this year's cap due to the timing of this cut. Anybody have the scoop on that?

Great move. KGB really is an amazingly classy person but was just very innefective as a football player. Thompson, Monthomery and Hunter were all better options at this point.

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
KGB is building a house in Green Bay and had intended to live there after his career was over. Whether this changes things or not, I don't know.
He only had one more year on his contract and I believe had been paid most of his money.
I would not have released him at this late stage in the season. Not sure why TT did this at this point. The guy is popular among team-mates and off the field. Just don't play the guy much, but releasing him outright on November 1st doesn't seem like a good chemistry move. Back in August, yes. Now, no.

KGB is a class act and I'll miss him on the Packers despite his recent performance.

Why couldn't have Favre just made a statement like this and leave it alone?

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
I remember reading that a healthy portion of Rodgers guarenteed money was structured so that it counted against this years cap, saving us money for the future. I know the deadline for such moves was this weekend. Not sure if it was Friday or Saturday. I'm thinking that cutting KGB may have saved us some cash. Perhaps we ate some of his 09' salary this season? Not sure how that works or what KGB's contract even looks like. It came to mind so I figured I'd bring it up and someone more educated could further explain.

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
We really need an NFL version of GAD on this board to help immediately tell us whether the Packers saved some serious money by releasing KGB when they did.
The good news is that Enlund and Gary Howard don't cover the Packers. McGinn will have all the answers in tomorrow's paper.

Re: KGB released...Harrell activated
I don't think they actually saved any money, but I think the rest of the bonus money, which would have counted against the cap equally each year he was under contract, is now all going to pile under this year's budget. Not sure about that, but that's how I think it works. Whereas if we'd cut him later, that hit would come next year. One way or another, he's getting that money, it's just a procedural matter that affects whether we have more cap space now, when there's almost nothing we can do with it, or next season, when we have many more options.

Silverstein says we're taking a 1.57 mil cap hit next season. Wonder when the deadline was for that to count on this year's cap.
