LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Apparently, heads are going to roll for the Oakland Raiders’ 2-6 start.
Cornerback DeAngelo Hall is expected to be released by Oakland on Wednesday, NFL.com reported on Tuesday evening.
It would be another drastic move for the crumbling franchise, which fired coach Lane Kiffin and hired Tom Cable at the end of September.
So far, the coaching change has made little impact, with the Raiders going 1-3 since, including an embarrassing 24-0 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
If the rumors are true, Hall’s tenure with the Raiders will have been a short one. The two-time Pro Bowler was acquired from Atlanta in March and signed to a seven-year contract for $70 million.
According to the report, Oakland is planning to waive Hall in order to avoid paying the cornerback $16 million of injury-guaranteed bonuses.
If Hall is waived, any team could put in a claim for him but would then be obligated to pick up his contract. If he were to go unclaimed, Hall would be free to negotiate with any team.
In eight games, Hall has 43 tackles and a team-leading three interceptions.
Hall’s departure could be just the tip of the iceberg, as ESPN has reported on its web site that owner Al Davis has asked the front-office staff to explore the possibility of releasing several players, mainly high-priced veterans.
According to ESPN, the list consists of 12 players, but wide receiver Javon Walker - who has just 13 catches this season - was the only one named.

My friend told me about this last night and I was shocked, only because of the crazy contract we signed Hall to this offeseason. He's garbage though, and anyone could do a better job than he has doen so far. I'm all for the move, even though it shouldn't have happened in the first place, and now we're out of a handful of draft picks in the process.
