Official Rename the Zards to the Zephyrs Thread
Ok, I understand that "Bullets" has a bad vibe going since DC periodically leads the nation in murders per capita. But "Wizards"? What is this, Disneyland? How can a grown man play for a team called the Wizards? I put on my cap and cape. I mean, come on.
But I like the Zephyrs. This team needs to go old school and learn how to play defense. And what's more old school than a team name straight out of the 1800s? Who's with me?

Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Im with you, I like the name too. Its better then the Wizards, old school, and a departure from the norm, which is a good thing. Plus those jereys I liked a lot, we looked real good in the almost solid white, plus the Zephyr arcross the chest was cool.

Yes I never understood why we didn't just change back to Zephyrs when we did the stupid name change as is....
Washington Zephyrs and we could bring in the Red Hot Chili Peppers to do the zephyr song. Would be LEGENDARY.

Plus we need to get this guy back as coach-

This is Slick Leonard, one of the original coaches of the Zephyrs, who went on to become sort of the Red Auerbach of the ABA winning 3 titles with the Indiana Pacers. I think he's actually still alive though he's like the same age as Dick Motta.

Agreed wholeheartedly.
I LOVED the unis they wore last night. Clean and original. The Zephyr name has both abstract and real meanings. It sounds cool. And different. And it doesn't have the "Bullets" stigma too it. I haven't read through the other threads to see what the media/team's perception of them were, but I have to think the reviews were good.
The name Wizards has pretty much always stunk - the only thing worse was is the jerseys. The worst possible blue color (not a nice light Carolina/sky blue and not a dark navy, but more of an ugly, royal blue), the stupid "Wizard" logo with the oversized "W" which in this day and age, really doesn't bring the most positive connotations. The "W" also is an exact replica of the "W" the Wutang Clan uses. I like the theory that the Wizards were chosen because of the Harry Potter books - even though HP was really just getting started back in '98.
I still don't quite understand why there hasn't been a major redesign of the Wiz jerseys since their inception. They are seriously almost embarrassing. The black alternates they wear are far superior to the home whites or road blues - I wish they wore those more.

Loved the uni's. The name's a little old fashioned for me. Show 'em, Monty:

The Wiz alternate uni's are nice if they'd ditch the gold lamay jersey and make it black to match the shorts. Just ditch the blue from the color scheme and go black white and gold.

I don't especially like or dislike the Zephyrs name, though I'd certainly take it over Wizards. What I did like was the uniforms - the general style and color scheme were really nice. Then again, I don't think there's a retro uniform we've worn yet that I didn't like better than our current ones. They're just jank.

Re: Official Rename the Zards to the Zephyrs Thread
I'm with it. At least we didn't end up the Sea Dogs, which is potentially the only worse name than the Wizards.
The unis are terrible (at least the Capitals ditched that awful blue and went back to the red/white), the name is terrible... and there are TWO better historic names than the Wizards (both Bullets and Zephyrs.)
Loved the unis last night. Really class.

Loved the unis... hey, maybe we can take the unis and call ourselves the Comets. I understand that name is available.

LOL!
If we go with Zephyrs, that's cool. Ji and I can call 'em the Z's because, they are definitely making me want to sleep through the rest of this season...ugh

Re: Official Rename the Zards to the Zephyrs Thread
The Wiz need to be ranmed to something patriotic.....DC has the CAPITALS and the NATIONALS and both teams rock a red, white, and blue look. It'd make sense to rename the Wiz to something that represents the DC area and all that.
