TKF Keys to the win....

Post#1 » by TKF » Sun Dec 7, 2008 8:01 pm

Wow, what can I say, quality opponent, early game, so let me get the excuses for detroit out of the way..

Detroit lost because:
Hamilton got ejected
The pistons were out partying too late
Walker and curry both had on pinstripe suits and sat next to one another.
It was sunday
It wasn't saturday
the ball was slick
Hermann tied his pony tail with a rubberband instead of a bow.

Ok, so now that we got that out of the way, lets get to the game:

with a huge lead I was scared the knicks would lose it.. and they did, but I am going to say this. I was very unhappy with the officiating in the 3rd quarter. The touch fouls that were given to detroit and the ticky tack fouls they got, while we had to bleed to get a call... Haywood workman should never be allowed to work a knick game. He is still living in the 90's and remembers that rivalry...

Duhon: great game, had to guard iverson and run the offense the full game, he came up big late with some buckets and great pick and roll passes to lee. 25/9/5 with just two TO's.. He was fantastic late, made big plays, kept his head and was a leader all game...

Lee: so I guess to all the lee detractors. 12/19 vs the pistons was a fluke also? I guess the pistons are not a good team? I will give it up to lee, he was big on the boards, got us some key second opportunities and ran the pick and roll great with duhon 12/19

Big AL: good and bad game. when he forces things, it kills the ball flow, but when he scores in the flow of the game, he is very good. He was very active defensively which was huge in the first half, and he made the big 3 late in the game, to seal it for us. 18/6, but he shot 50% from the field.. He is also taking the ball to the basket more.

Chandler: took some bad shots and needs to work on his handle so he can be more effective creating shots, but he hit big three to stop the pistons run, and he didn't back down, although he had a very tough cover in Prince.. 17/8 shot in the upper 40's from the field. Nice game.

Big mouth, aka Q: Good defensive game with the exception of the bonehead foul on that three by aflalo, he had a good game. 23/5 and 50% from the field. So I guess he can run his mouth today ,since he played hard and had a good game? Is he now allowed to do that. good game Q..

Tim Thomas: 6/4, he will make some head turning plays and then some head scratching one's. All I have to say is that he keeps malik off the floor and teams have to respect the fact that he can score. Other than that, he played a lazy defensive game today...

Jeffries: 3/4. The stats don't tell the whole story. Especially in the first half, his ball movement, defense and overall presence on the court was nice. He provided some much needed height and ball IQ on the court. He just needs to stop trying to create shots..

Overall, knicks looked great in the first half, on both sides of the ball, the ball movement, the shooting, rebounding and defense was great. we just need to find out how to keep that for 4 quarters.

Player of the game goes to Duhon and lee, they worked the pick and roll well, and although Iverson was off(thank god) duhon seemed to outplay him, and lee held his own vs the detroit bigs. Guys like amir johnson and maxiel were not factors. I would also like to add Tayshaun Prince for detroit. he had a great game, he is a classy guy, and IMP MVP for the pistons.

SCOTN: aaron Aflalo... Thig guy is shandon anderson 2.0. he was making shots with his feet twisted and tied together, I was just shaking m y head at this guy throw that stuff up.. Hermann was almost in the running for the award..

Big win.. 9-11 tough road trip ahead....

Keys to the game:

No Roberson. No Malik. Duhon to Lee being the number 1 play in the playbook.

Duhon-Lee chemistry is awesome. I don't mind if we sign Lee. We should get Lebron in 2010 and just sign another star in 2011 when Curry and Jeffries expire. That way, we can keep Duhon, Lee and Al Harrington.

Good read TKF! It's amazing how great Duhon is playing, I said it in the game thread, this guy is doing EVERYTHING you want your PG to do - he controls the tempo, leads by example, plays defense, sets up plays and he is shooting better this year. Just a great floor general. I interviewed him back in when I was in NY for the start of the season and he is also a very nice guy, humble and down to earth.

BTW check your PM, I would like to hear what you think!;-)

good recap TKF but I still think Lee is not going to be on this team come next year.

Duhon, what can you say about him, I'm just very impressed with him. He does nothing spectacular, just gets the job done. Best PG in NY since the Jackson/Strickland days.

Wilson Chandler needs to learn what a pump fake is.

Contrary to what a lot of people on this board think, I don't think Jeffries gets traded, he is that intangibles guy that every team needs.

On a side note, if Gallo is even half of what a lot of people believe he can be, this team is going to be dangerous. I just want to see the kid play, I want to know if he can run the offense, thereby giving the Knicks another passer and ball handler. I swear at this point I will be happy if he just gets on the court and gives us some passing and shooting.

good point about lee, but looking at his play, we are going to have to get crazy value for this kid, and I mean a young up and comming SG and a pick.... maybe that is a bit much, but you get my point..

And I agree about jeffries, he was key in the first half and he is giving us much needed size and length... I also can't wait for gallo, if he can do what we have seen from him in films, we are going to have an interesting squad for sure...

I think TKF and supergallinari are being a bit too hard on Afflalo. The kid is a gritty, hardnosed SG who's a throwback player. He kind of reminds me of a more athletic Raja Bell.

Just wanted to add that I really like Al Harrington. Yeah, I know he makes some boneheaded plays ever now and then but that dudes 3pt shot is money as long as his feet are set. He also plays with a great deal of heart and enthusiasm and goes hard! I love when he hit that three at the end and was hoopin' & hoolarin' then grabbed that "NEW YORK" emblazoned across his chest and screamed to the crowd. To me, he seems like one of the first Knicks in a long time to take pride in putting that jersey on. Doesn't hurt that he's a local kid from Elizabeth, NJ who's been a life-long Knicks fan.

The Chemistry was awful in the second half, yet we still found a way to win, the Pistons missed a lot of wide open jumpers and thanks to that we won. The defense in the second half was horrible, the offense was even worse. We caught a break with Detroit missing some open shots, including some layups and 3 foot jumpers. I know a big part of that is the lack of chemistry with the new guys, but QRich and David Lee have to be smarter with the ball, they are making some lazy lazy passes that just give other teams the ball without them even working for it. In the second half the Detroit defense wasnt as big of a key as our lazy decision making was, this has to be corrected soon. But I will take the win, and we need Nate Robinson back to give Duhon some rest, he played the entire game, WOW

Great Keys TKF - good read, as usual.

Knicks are going to have to make some decisions. I think Lee, Nate, Harrington and Duhon are all worth consideration come 2010 but if we keep all 4, that's a pretty big chunk of cap space.

If Chandler/Gallinari work out then you have to think about trading Lee, because you can get some value in return and at some point, the rotation gets too crowded. It's a tough call, but it's also a number's game. If Lee's contract year was coming due 1 season later, there'd be no issue. His contract is coming due at the wrong time.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

QRich had only 2 turnovers all game. The team was +3 with him in the game.

Lee did have 4 turnovers today, but the team was +20 with him in the game.

Jared Jeffries was terrible and when he was out there it was like we were playin 4 against 5.

We need him to play to get his value up, but i really don't think he will be able to inflate it at all.

Gotta keep Lee for the chance Lebron signs here. At worst you've got a solid double-double machine, at best he continues to improve his offensive game and he could be a legitimate offensive threat and thrive off Lebron's playmaking skills. I don't see any good reason to let him go to free agency unless he wants some huge sum of money. The cap situation looks fine for 2010/11 so there's no need to dump him for cap reasons alone. He's obviously not untouchable but I just don't see a good enough trade coming along to justify a trade at this point.

Return to New York Knicks
