We love injured pitchers...
saying that 18 game win season, without question. Plus he'll play everyday SS for us and hit 300. win win

Well, I guess this there really isn't a downside to this. If he doesn't contribute to the team, no surprise, but if he does, a decent pickup.
I hope/assume that this isnt JP's solution to losing Burnett.

SPYKE LEE WHAT UP! You're one of the cooler dudes around here, haven't spoke to ya in awhiles.
Anyway, I guess there isn't a negative in the signing. Why though does JP always have an infatuation with certain players? I remember him trying to nab Clement a couple years back. He also had a love fest for Barajas way before he signed with us, and Scutaro too. I don't really know if it's a bad thing or what.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Re: Blue Jays Sign Matt Clement
Just thank god we're getting Clement for ~$500k in 2009 rather than the $7-10m a year JP tried to throw at him in 2005.
I like the move even though he's showing all the signs of being burnt out at age 30...injuries piling up, rapidly-declining K rate, fastball that no longer does much. With the implosion of our rotation, though, we need to stockpile as many semi-competent pitchers as possible, and Clement is close to semi-competent.

**** your asterisk.

Thought of that aswell. JP sure is persistent/supborn though... If he wants you he wants you - shoulder surgery bedamd.
That said, I agree Clement might be a cost effective solution at the lower end of our rotation. Very little risk this way.
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

Same with me, I recall JP going after him a few seasons ago...
Great deal.

7.02 ERA, 16.2 IP, 13 walks, 10 strike outs.
That was Clement's line in AAA last season.
He's 34 coming off serious shoulder surgery. He's done.
Scott Richmond or Davis Romero would be better 5th starter options than him at this point. I guess a minor league deal never hurts though.

Re: Blue Jays Sign Matt Clement
This isn't just low-risk. It's no-reward, either. This is just for JP to convince the fans he has a rotation for next year.
Media: JP, what's your excuse this year?
JP: Injuries, but I like our team.
Wilner: HIGH-FIVE JP!!

JP is a huge fan of Marco Scutaro's 5 oclock shadow. He brings binoculars to his press box and watches Marco's chin while he bats.
