Portland/Memphis trade talks heating up?

Post#1 » by Oden » Fri Dec 12, 2008 2:33 am

David Aldridge quoted saying these two teams are trying to hammer out a deal. I'm sure Portland's target is STILL Conley.

How about this trade?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/t ... &te=&cash=

We throw in the rights to Joel Freeland 7-0 foot center who's have a monster year over in Europe.

Hate to sound rude, but no freakin' way. That offer was flat out offensive. Conley AND Lowry for that?

No thanks

Portland/Memphis trades have been proposed by so many in here in different forms and there still hasn't been one that has made sense for either team in my opinion.

But after watching the Portland/Utah game tonight I am convinced that the guy that would instantly pull the Grizzlies up the ladder a little is Paul Milsap. What a perfect fit for Memphis he would be. I think he's a restricted free agent so there could be a chance at the right price.

How right of a price can the Grizz throw at Milsap?

With Critt traded, I don't think there's any way the Grizz would trade both Conley and Lowry in the same deal.

Agreed on Milsap, but I've been high on him since I saw him destroy the Tigers in the Forum (well, Tigers still won, but Milsap had 25 and 17 or so) and lead the nation in rebounding (IIRC) at La. Tech. I think Utah values him highly though (and rightfully so): we might have to overpay for him, but given the money Utah has tied up in AK47, Boozer, and Williams, it might be possible to pry Milsap away.

I read on hoopshype that Milsap is an unrestricted free agent, not restricted like I thought. That changes everything.

Not only can Memphis offer a handsome contract with their cap space, but they can offer him the starters position, something Utah can't unless they let Carlos Boozer walk for nothing. Interesting. $8mil a year for him looks in the range. The guy scores 13.5 points and hauls down over 8.5 rebounds a game and he's doing it in something like 27-29 minutes a game. Give him a starting role with at least 32-34 minutes a game and he could be a strong force.

From watching him against the Blazers he has very long arms, blocks shots, and even showed a nice touch on a midrange jumpshot. He's more than just a banger, which he can also do. Now I know I shouldn't even compare the two but he has a few things that really remind me of Elton Brand. And he's still young enough in his third year to grow with the core group of Grizzlies.

If I were GM I would target him since Utah also has both Boozer and Okur having player options on their contracts. My guess is that Boozer, who already has a good contract, stays where he is and the Jazz have to ante up more to keep Okur, who is having a terrific season. They need him since they don't have any other big man. It also opens up options at the draft for Memphis if they have it in their plans to go after Milsap.

Pretty wierd. With Ike and Bayless scoring 1.1 ppg each...it's kind of hard to pump it up much, add a Euro no-show.....yeah..wow.

I actually think Ike will be very good someday..but first he's got to play. Bayless can be a good undersize SG..but can he be a PG? Maybe memphis sends Conley and ? but not both Lowry+ Conley now. Portland might even need to add a bit to do it for just Conley + fill....but then I'n not THAT keen on Conley. Bayless-Mayo COULD be a pretty dynamic duo. Each has SOME pg in him and both can be scorers.
CENSORED... No comment.

Rightly so or not, Conley's value to Chris Wallace is increasing concomitantly with his FG%. And, as others have said, with And-One gone, the PG situation in MEM just got a little easier.

Blake and Outlaw for Lowry OR Conley + Warrick?

I was all for trading Conley, but I just don't know what value the Grizz will get back right now.

Conley
for
Outlaw, Sergio

That is the only thing I can see, but does that really put the Grizz in a much better position? I think trading Conley should include getting an expiring deal for Darko.

I can't find this quote anywhere. It was a Portland fan that brought it up...
