Well, he's a butcher in the field who can only DH and a clubhouse cancer. He's also a great hitter.

If they sign Manny, what do they do with Matsui and Damon? And who plays first base?

Texiera makes so much sense for the Yankees. I'd overpay to get him and to keep him away from the Red Sox.

Matsui *can't* field anymore so anyone we get would have to play defense. And there's no escaping a defensive downgrade if we want to pick up an outfielder, since every worthwhile one on the FA market is a bad defender. Damon or Nady would be traded, which wouldn't be a bad idea anyway since neither one's stock will be any higher than it is now.

I still think Adam Dunn is the best option if we could get him on a 3-4 year deal worth around 15 million per.

I am 100% all for signing Manny Ramirez. Currently on our team we have a lot of strong personalities with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Nick Swisher, CC Sabathia. These guys a lone I feel would be able to keep Manny in line and have him work hard and dilligently. Manny on a 2 year deal is so much better then an 8 year deal for Teixera.

Manny makes lineups so much better. Look at the dodgers for instance, how much better offensively they became, not only because Manny was batting .400, but because he gives them someone everyone fears. No one wants to pitch to Manny, and that benefits other players as they see pitches to hit more frequently. I personally don't believe Mark Teixera makes our lineup go from good, to great, but to just a little better. Manny on the hand, makes our lineup go from good, to SCARY-GOOD.

Signing Manny and then trading say Damon or Nady would be ideal.
Say somehow we could trade Nady + IPK for Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder? WOW.

^^ If that were the case I'm sure Gonzalez would already be on his way over to NY. It would take ALOT more then Nady and Kennedy to land either Gonzalez or Fielder.

Manny would do alot for the Yankees lineup, and especially Arod. Arod needs a reliable hitter to protect him and take the pressure off him. How much better of a hitter is there then Manny? Especially out in FA?

A 2 or 3 year deal for Manny at 22-23 mill/year would be a good signing for the Yankees. Yanks get there hitter to protect Arod, he's clutch in the playoffs, and can be had for a relitively short-term deal. I would imagine he would stay motivated as well because he has said he wants to reach the 700 HR mark.

Please sign manny...PLEASE not only would he make our offense scary again, he would destroy the red sox 19 times a year.. I pray we get him...

Damon
Jeter
A-Rod
Manny
Matsui
Nady
Posada
Swisher
Cano

Keep melky and garder as our defensive and baserunning replacements respectfully, keep jose molina, sign a defensive infielder and let shelley duncan and juan miranda duke it out for the backup position..

That lineup has the worst defensive outfield in the major leagues. plus a catcher who may not be able to throw.

I refuse to believe it'll be that simple. I fear the Boras.

Haha, manny **** over his best friends. I am not saying if he goes to the yankees he will go awol, I think he will play hard. But not because he is being kept in line by jeter or Mo.

Agreed. Matsui/Damon/Nady/Manny...not one good defensive outfielder.

We're basically replacing Abreu with Manny and I recall Abreu was TERRIBLE defensively. I don't understand how we'll drop off that much...

Because this forces Damon back to center, who is much worse than Melky/Gardner defensively...and then Matsui/Manny back to LF, who are both much worse defensively than Damon at that spot.

how big of a concern is it thou? CC, AJ, Joba are strikeout pitchers, Wang is a groud-out pitcher....do we really have a "fly-out pitcher" who needs a good OF behind him?

btw, do u support us signing manny?

Not having any pitchers with notorious flyball tendencies doesn't mean you can get away with having a bad outfield defense.

If they want to sign an outfielder, the easy fix here is to deal Nady, who isn't that good but could get something back with his inflated value. If they insist on signing Manny, this would put him back in right field, where he belongs in most ballparks. The only reason he ever started playing left is Fenway.

I don't think its so disastrous, I was just pointing out why people are worried about what it does defensively.

I really have mixed feelings about signing Manny, but I would prefer to give him 3 years in LF/DH than Teixeira for 8 years at 1B. We obviously need one more power bat, because nobody knows what to expect from Posada or Matsui. Manny is arguably the greatest hitter of our generation, maybe only behind ARod. Putting those two back to back in a lineup would be devastating for any opposing pitching, it really is almost a no brainer. And you have to consider how motivated he would be coming home to the Bronx and taking his anger out on Boston 19 times a year. Plus once you get to the postseason, nobody shows up like Manny does. He has also stated he is driven to hit 700 home runs, so we'll have our 3 and 4 hitters setting records in the new stadium.
