Gabe Pruitt to Phoenix??

Post#1 » by Jammer » Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:29 am

Phoenix had tryouts today with 6 point guards to be the 13th man on their roster.

Whoever is selected would be at the vet minimum,
that could cost Phoenix as much as $ 797K.

Phoenix has a trade exception for the exact amount of Gabe Pruitt's salary.

Phoenix has their first round pick +
their second round pick +
Golden State's second round pick.

Would you trade Gabe to Phoenix for Golden State's second round pick?

Or, would you rather trade Gabe Pruitt + J.R. Giddens for Grant Hill?

We can use Pruitt this year: Doc just needs to get busy playing him for longer stretches.

I'm not really sure if Sam still has it, but we would be done for if 9 or 50 went down. We have more depth at the wing anyway.

Switch Giddens and Walker and I'd do it. Walker and Pruit for Hill.

Giddens > Walker, imo.

GSW's 2'nd round pick is likely to be in the same range where we picked Pruitt. If we moved Pruitt, chances are we'd be looking to select a PG in that spot. So all that moving Gabe for the pick seems to accomplish, is give us a young PG without the experience Gabe has. There seems no upside in that.

In the Foxsports player profile for Hill is the following quote from a paper "The Orlando Sentinel reports that veteran Grant Hill would quit if he were traded from the Suns this season." I don't know if that is true, but sending away two prospects in order to watch Hill retire would be pretty grim.

Slow but steady progress with Pruitt I think. Patience with Perk paid off, I think we should have it with Pruitt. He's playing much better defense, and there was a play last game (or I could be thinking of the Chicago game) where he sprinted up the court, passed to an open Eddie for a 3 - Eddie missed the shot, but it made me think that Pruitt is learning some things, and may be gaining the fast break game.

I really dislike Grant Hill for what he did to Orlando. I wouldn't have anything to do with him. I'd hold onto Pruitt and trade Sam Cassell to Phoenix for a 2nd rounder. Its too risky to trade Gabe now because of his potential.

Even if that team were the best team in the league, giving him a good chance at a ring? Hard to believe.

Hard to say. His wife is a singer, he has a couple of kids, including one with MS. Given millions in the bank, he could decide being away from his family for 6 months isn't something that would be personally acceptable, even if it was to chase a ring.

let me see if I get this right. You want to trade Gabe Pruitt a second round pick who we;ve spent two years developing and learning our system and who is playing well in limited minutes and who is our second best ball handler after rajon rondo to the Suns for another second round pick that we have no idea who it will be or what they can do? My answer is no. As for a package to get grant hill that sounds nice but I can't imagine the salaries come anywhere near close to working unless you throw in scalabrine. Gabe needs more minutes which Doc is trying to get him right now. I think given the chance he could be quite good for us. He's a Devin Harris type player but doesn't have Devin's aggressiveness- at least not yet. Anyhow I certainly would not give him away.

Gabe and Giddens for Hill is tempting. 2 for 1, then sign Mutombo and activate Cassell--- tada! We have a very experienced bench, but lose some potentially good players down the line.

What did he do to Orlando?

Oh Moses smell the roses!

Gabe has no value to us. If someone wants him for a 2nd we do it. Not because we think a 2nd is worth more than him. Because It frees up money and a roster spot. We are going to be getting someone. Without a trade we are forced to cut someone, possibly Gabe. We can always get another prospect as good as Gabe in the draft again. If we really need ball handling or if Rondo or Sam or Eddy go down, we can deal with finding someone else then.

If any team will trade a second and a trade exception for Gabe or probably anyone not in our rotation (maybe not Walker or Giddions depending on how Ainge feels about them) we do it.

He could have came back sooner and played for them, but he sat out games until his contract was almost up.

I would have loved to have traded Gabe to PHX if the Suns didn't just sign Dee

That didn't happen at all. No Magic fan i have ever met has ever said that. They have nothing but the kindest words about the guy (though not the kindest about his ankles). He has a reputation as an all-around great guy. Please link to a story or reliable source that says otherwise

1. I didn't vote

2. For the guys who asked to switch Walker for Giddens in the Grant Hill trade,
sorry, Pruitt + Walker for Grant Hill does not work.

3. The point of the two trade proposals was to clear a roster spot for Mutombo.

4. Adding 36 year old Grant Hill as a backup SF (and backup PG) wouldn't hurt.

5. If Marbury gets bought out in the next two weeks, the Celtics will try to sign him,
to take Pruitt's spot, and to keep Marbury away from the Lakers.
If the Celtics sign Marbury, he will be on the ACTIVE 12, so Pruitt will either be
INACTIVE or off the team.

6. I would tend to think that if Danny wanted to trade players for a pick, the easiest players to swap for a pick are Pruitt (2nd Round Pick) or Giddens (late first round pick).

Gabe's finally starting to look like a Point Guard against the Sixers tonight.

Yeah he looked really nice. I'll be so damn pissed if we sign a scrub like Marbury at Gabe's expense.
