The Golden State Warriors got shelled by the Orlando Magic last night in Orlando. Warriors coach Don Nelson went deep into his bench to try and rest his starters for their back-to-back game tonight in Miami. When Don Nelson called Marcus Williams' into the game, the backup guard who is thoroughly entrenched in Nelson's doghouse had to lace up his shoes at the scorer's table. When you know you're going to be a spectator all night why bother lacing them up right? Williams was viewed as a possible answer for the Warriors during the off-season, and his fall from grace has been brutal for all involved. It's been rumored that the Warriors would gladly trade Williams; it was also believed they even considered an outright buyout of his contract.

I'd love to see the Lakers pull a trade for him. He did well for the Nets in Kidd's absence and got pointers from him as well. Also, he's on the last year of his contract and he from here, born in Los Angeles. I think he doesn't suit the Warriors at all hence why he's not starting as projected before this season.

He would be much more desirable than the scrubs we're looking at now. Say "No" to Dan.

Re: OT: Warriors want to deal point guard Marcus Williams
Anyone remember in the draft when he was slipping and we were all praying to get him. I remember when teams kept passing and passing on him and he made it all the way down to the Nets which if I remember were just a few spots before us. And we thought we were going to get him because the Nets already had a good pg in Jason Kidd. And yet, Thorn still finds a way to screw us again and drafts him. I remember everyone was freaking out because I was on the live draft chats that we have here on realgm and everyone was going crazy after each team kept passing on MArcus Williams because of his "attitude problems". He was projected by some to go in the top 10 I remember. Then the board had a FIT when we drafted Farmar. I remember I was mad. I wanted Shannon Brown from Michigan State.
I remember at that position I either wanted Shannon Brown, MAurice Ager, James White or Mike Gansey from West Virginia. <------ LOL. Can you imagine?
He didn't even get drafted and I thought he was for sure a good NBA talent. Whoops
I'd take Marcus Williams for sure. He could be a very formidable guard if given some steady minutes. Definitely better than Dan Dickau
Just for the hell of it, Here's how the 2006 draft went down
What a disaster that trade between Portland and Chicago turned out to be in TT and LMA. Shelden Williams is an absolute BUST. But he was a very good big man at Duke so I can see why they would pick him at the 5th spot. This wasn't a deep draft class at all, Utah did a good job in this draft though picking up good talent with their picks in Brewer, Dee Brown, and Paul Milsap.

Re: OT: Warriors want to deal point guard Marcus Williams
He is a decent PG and a mid range jump shooter good for a back up.. Not sure he beats Jordan Farmar.. but if he is available we should take him.
We should try to negotiate a partial buy out from Golden state and give him the minimum...

Re: OT: Warriors want to deal point guard Marcus Williams
From the few games I've seen this guy play he has pure pg ability and great floor vision... but from everything we've heard it sounds like he just doesn't have any fire in his belly. I wonder if he'd put any effort in on the defensive end of the floor. As a third string pg (behind Fish and Sasha) I wouldn't mind experimenting with him though, especially if the asking price is just a 2nd rd pick. I think Sasha is a good enough back-up pg to use going into the playoffs, especially compared to the names that have been coming up in free agency.

We would have to trade salary for salary. Could not just trade a pick to get him since we are so far over the cap. Williams would be a nice addition. Just not sure what they want or what we could offer.
51. Los Angeles Lakers - Cheick Samb, INTL: Senegal..This 7'1 center sure was a second round waste. Do we still have his rights. Is he playing in the NBA or D-League. I guess over in Europe. He was only 220 pounds as I remember or close to that.

They traded Samb's rights to Detroit on draft day.

Re: OT: Warriors want to deal point guard Marcus Williams
Marcus Williams or should I say laptop williams is a very talented PG rpospect in that 2006 draft but he's the real example of a headcase. Nothing else can properly explain why someone in his rookie deal gets traded like he's been from NJ and suffer like he's doing in GS. He was pretty impressive backing up Kidd and also started a few games and put up very impressive numbers with the Nets but seemed to have been on the wrongside of things in the locker room all the time. I've heard guys like RJ & Carter wanted him gone from the team at that time.
His draft stock dropped very quickly after a computer theft in college or something like that and even in college, his presence on the team chemistry was severely questioned. Seeing as though he hasn't been a favourite in GS either, I wouldn't seem to want him with our young team despite the talaent he brings in.

He got traded to Detroit, then traded to Denver as part of the Billups deal, then I think he got sent to the D-League.

Samb was traded to the Pistons for Mo Evans on draft day, and is indeed now in the D-league as Nugget property.
Marcus Williams could be a decent backup PG, but he doesn't fit the triangle well. Poor perimeter shooter and poor defender. No thanks, I would much prefer Lue or Pargo.

Mitch and Phil should interview him and work him out. He's a great talent, but I worry about his mentality.
