4 team trade?

After reading Hoopsworld and a couple of other publications, I came-up with this 4-team trade. First let me state the background:

Dallas: They want Corey Maggette in the worst way. The Warriors would love nothing more than to send him to the Mavericks. The problem is that unless Dallas wants to give-up Josh Howard, they have nobody in the same salary range that they are willing to unload except Dampier... And the Warriors want nothing to do with that contract, which still has 3 years on it.

Goldenstate: They want to dump Maggette on somebody, and try something else next summer. Maggette is not working well with Jackson. Capt Jack is also a possibility to get shipped, as he has requested a trade. However, I believe GoldenState would MUCH rather send Maggette out than Jackson, who is the team Captain.... although, that wouldnt stop them from dumping him for an expiring contract.

Portland: They want an experienced point guard who can lead the team into the playoffs. Blake has played well, but he doesn't have the leadership skills and experience that the Blazers are craving from a PG.

Cleveland: The Cavs have a couple of areas they could shore-up. A wing-player with size, who can hit a shot, and is a good defender, and a big man who can defend and score in the post.

The Trade:

Cavaliers get: Channing Frye, Travis Outlaw and Ronny Turiaf
(they lose: Wally Szczerbiak, Tarence Kinsey)

Portland gets: Jason Kidd
(they lose: Raef LaFrentz, Steve Blake, Channing Frye, Travis Outlaw)

Golden State gets: Raef LaFrentz, Tarence Kinsey
(they lose: Corey Maggette, Ronny Turiaf)

Dallas gets: Wally Szczerbiak, Corey Maggette, Steve Blake
(they lose: Jason Kidd)

Why each team would make this trade:

Dallas - The Mavericks regret trading for Jason Kidd, as it has ruined their roster. They dont have the young talent that invigorates a club, and they dealt both of their picks with Harris, so they don't have much to look forward to in the immediate future either. Dallas will be admitting that the trade was a bad one by trading Kidd, but if they dont make this trade, thy have no chance at getting talent or competing in the post-season. Wally Szczerbiak gives them a bench guy who can hit the three, and who can play PF in a small-ball line-up. He is expiring, so if he doesnt work, it is no big deal. Steve Blake has put-up better numbers than Kidd, and has about a 17 PER... so he can run the point with Terry and Jose without a hitch. Dallas' big prize is getting Corey Maggette, who they have been trying to get ever since he became available.

Portland : Portland gets "exactly" what is was looking for in this trade. They wanted an experienced point to mentor their young point guards, and to lead the team to the post-season. They traded their 3rd-string PF, their back-up SF, and an expiring contract to get this done. The reason they ultimately do this, is that Jason Kidd can be used for the season, then he is done... subtracting 21million from Portland's payroll next year.

Golden State The warriors get a free-pass here. They get a "do-over". Basically they get bailed-out of their bad summer. The money they have available plus their young talent, a high draft pick... it all equals a happy Warrior front-office.

Cleveland The Cavaliers needed some depth in the front court. They would have preferred Ike Diogu as opposed to Frye, but they'll accept the package for Wally and Kinsey. Turiaf and Frye will split time as the #4 off the bench and provide insurance against injuries to either Zydrunas of Ben. Travis Outlaw replaces everything that Wally did, but does it all better. He is bigger, a better shooter, and a MUCH better defender. Outlaw could possibly be signed to an extension over the summer by the Cavs if this deal were to take place.



For the Cavaliers... A lot of people will be worried that having the extra BIGS will impede the development of D-Block and JJ... But I highly doubt that. The minutes that they currently get...they will continue to get. Frye and Turiaf will be used as situational big-men... who can spell Ben Wallace when he is looking a bit slow. Frye is a good offensive threat, so he can be some instant offense. The end-games, where the Cavs lead by a lot... those minutes will still goto Jackson & Hickson. The One player that will lose minutes, is Wright. But I don't think Wright will mind...and neither will most Cavs fans.

I don't see why the Cavs would do this.. I really don't. Varejao is not much different from Turiaf. We have no use for Outlaw. Frye is a big tweener who has no inside presence or defense.

I'm sure the Mavs are just clamoring for the opportunity to get Maggette...

No way Dallas does it, they're going to get as far as they can with Kidd, and they've been playing decent lately.

Don't get me wrong, Travis Outlaw is a great player, but I think with Wally's contract, that we can get a better STAR player.

For those of you who dont think Dallas wants Corey... why not try reading a little bit... they have already proposed 3 trades with GS since the 15th (one since Corey has been injured).

Those of you that say that the Cavs wouldn't do it.... you must not know your own team. The Cavaliers have NOBODY if Ben and Z go down again this year (Ben has been shut-down for 10-day stretches for the last three seasons, and Z has missed games last year and this year due to inury). So... if we dont get some other quality bigs, then we will be stuck with Any and Wright starting... and 2 rookies for the bench. Ronny Turiaf DOES do a lot of the same things Varejao does...just not as well. But he is a hustle guy, and he isnt afraid to bang. Frye is soft, and has no defense, but he can score points.

Travis Outlaw is a budding star on a team with so much talent, that he gets overlooked. Outlaw alone would end-up being the steal of the year.

Anyway... according to rumors permeating the web for the last week or so, it seems that many people are of the belief that Gerald Wallace will be coming to the Cavs. So, I expect Nazr to come with him. So I guess my idea wont have a shot if this rumor is true.
