what happens to jeter in 2 years?

we got TEx at first, so that spot is out...when jeters current deal expires, where do we move him too? its obvious he wont be able to play SS at that time....do we make him LF?

A lot happens in two years. Guys get injured, traded, retire, or just decline. Its tricky because as an organization you never want to be short sighted, but at the same time you don't want to look too far down the road because things rarely if ever go as you planned.

Maybe Jeter will be able to play SS for 4 more years instead of 2, or if he continues to decline and deal with nagging injuries every season (which get tougher to take with age) maybe he would just retire at 36 years old after a 16 year career. Who knows...we'll see, we've seen crazier things.

To be fair, his defense did look a little better in 2008 than 2007. It was still below average, but good enough that moving him off of short isn't an immediate concern. But then for all we know, he could go back to regressing again next year

He clearly loves being Mr. Aura Superhuman Goldenboy, so he'll want to at least stick around long enough to get to 3000 hits. If he stays healthy, he'll get there in 2011. The Yankees will be pretty much forced to bring him back for at least that year or face the wrath of angry, stupid fan mobs; hopefully there'll be a spot for him somewhere on the field. I'm *hoping* Jeter realizes it's better for everyone involved if he retires after that. It's possible that he'll still be productive at that point but the odds are against it.

It's gonna be Bernie Williams redux but even worse in terms of how fans and the media deal with it. People are gonna remember Jeter for what he used to be, still thinking he can put up #'s when the fact is... He's entering decline, and while his defense went from awful to slightly below average last year his hitting is becoming atrocious. A 102+ OPS [SLIGHTLY above average] and an increase in his GIDP #'s [the most in his career this past season]. Hopefully he gets the hint unlike Bernie, knows when his time is up and rides off into the sunset.
