As the Rockets completed their warm-ups and returned to the Toyota Center locker room Saturday, word spread that Tracy McGrady would not play.

Teammates were stunned by the 11th-hour decision and spread the word like hot new gossip. The news brought shock and questions, even almost amusement at their season in which every gathering brings updates of who will and will not play.

In the offices a few feet away, a day after McGrady had said his sore left knee had felt “pretty good” only to be unable to play a day later, McGrady was in a long, pregame meeting with Rockets coach Rick Adelman and general manager Daryl Morey, discussing his decision and plans playing, likely beginning tonight against the Washington Wizards, and to playing with energy and intensity. But the Rockets’ season of uncertainty — as the news that McGrady could not play spread, Ron Artest changed his mind to say he could — had grown stranger and more unpredictable.

lol t-mac is so pathetic. even the coach and gm are trying to get that puss* to prove he has a heart and a ball sack. I hate mcgrady, hes more selfish than marbury. get paid 21 mill then play half assed? how can you only score 7 points against the bucks? t-mac is a b*tch

This article is a few days old and there's nothing we don't know.
McGrady's problem is that he has mentally succumbed to his injury and as a result it is affecting his game.

Give this team 2-3 months, this happens every year, and we hope it won't happen, but it does. Right now isn't the time to worry, middle of February might be though.

Man watching at last nights game hurt. I've been so busy with work it was the first game I have went to this season, and it was pathetic.
It pissed me off royally watching McGrady come out of the locker room last with Barry and McGrady didn't even do any kind of warm-up, after scoring only 2 points in the first half. McGradys current physical ailments are his fault alone. If he has conditioned in Orlando than he wouldn't be in this state.
I have been an avid Tracy fan, and it really hurts to see his lack of emotion, lack of effort, and overall poor performance. I wasn't the only one either. Everyone around me was complaining. "Tracy shoot the damn ball", "Tracy drive to the basket", "He gets 21mil for this?"... All chants coming from those around me.
It sad that this guy is currently leading Chris Paul in All Star votes, hopefully that will help with recruiting free agents, if they see what playing along Yao will do for you when it comes to Chinese voters...

Give this team 2-3 months, this happens every year, and we hope it won't happen, but it does. Right now isn't the time to worry, middle of February might be though.

BS. In case you haven't noticed we're in a very tight and very talented conference and division, and we are trying to get the best position possible. There are *9* very strong teams vying for *8* playoff slots. The #9 team is currently only *2* games behind us. We could easily miss the playoffs in this environment if we don't get our act together pronto. And TMac is at the center of our recent malaise.

We don't have two months to get our act together. The rest of the conference won't wait for us.

What happened to this guy?

I remember when we drafted him in Toronto and he and young Vince were such a nice tandem.

Then in Orlando....well forget that.

If the Rockets do not make it out of the 1st round this year, good luck with that, I think we would have to deem McGrady's career kind of a failure.

he needs a shrink that's all, somebody needs to inject a bit mental toughness into him.
and hey, rumor goes that he is the big one in the locker room, that just confuses me (being very ignorant on locker related issues), how could somebody plays so bad be the leader of locker room?
