Our bench has not been really productive all year and we have been undersized because Doc is too stuborn to stop playing Powe and Davis togehter. Our usually 2nd unit is made up of:
SF: Pierce 6'7 or Ray 6'5
PF: Powe 6-7
C: Davis 6-8
SG: TA 6'4
PG: House 5'11
We also know Doc refuses to play POB. And we know he likes playing Powe and Davis togehter for some reason. So with the current roster and still keeping POB glued to the bench and Davis and Powe together, here is a solution to add some height to a short 2nd unit.
SF: Scalabrine 6'9
PF: Powe 6-7
C: Davis 6'8
SG: Pierce 6'7 or Ray 6'5
PG: Pruitt 6'4
TA and House having not been playing well, so IMO they need to sit for a while. Pruitt needs to be given some minutes and Scalerine has done decent so far. This might be worth trying because it adds more size to the 2nd unit and gives Powe more room to operate because Scalabrine stretches the defenses a lot more than TA.

Re: Adding size to the 2nd unit with the current roster
idk if adding size matters when the players are scalabrine or Patrick O'Bryant.
Scal can barely stay in front of PFs let alone SFs.
I'm glad Harrington didn't make all those shots against him yesterday though, good for him. Even Scal gets one good defensive game every 40 games.
Does anyone know of any options left in free agency?

For someone who quotes Boston newspapers all the time,
you sure missed the answer to your question.
It was reported that Dikembe Mutombo, all 7' 1.25" of him barefoot,
was willing to sign with the Celtics,
but the Celtics decided to wait,
and so Mutombo re-signed with Houston.
What were the Celtics waiting for??
Apparently the Celtics first preference is 33 year old Joe Smith, if he is bought out.
The Celtics second preference is Alonzo Mourning, if Miami detonates their season
should Wade or another key player have some injury, because otherwise
Mourning is expected to re-sign with MIami if they are playoff bound.
And the Celtics third preference is PJ Brown.
Now, the Celtics must be pretty confident that they can "persuade"
PJ to come out of retirement if they passed on Mutombo,
given the uncertainty around a Joe Smith buyout or
Miami's season heading south of the playoffs.
Although, with PJ being quoted that he is officially retired,
he doesn't have to take phone calls from reporters or representatives
from the other 29 teams anymore.

Re: Adding size to the 2nd unit with the current roster
I can't begin to think the Celtics passed on Mutombo.
HOU wouldn't have made that trade if they weren't certain they had first dibs on Mutombo.
And mutumbo if he wanted to be with the Celtics wouldn't of had to wait for so long giving HOU time to make a trade to free up that roster spot.
PJ I don't think would be better then Mutombo for this team at all. But he's likely better then Joe Smith.
As for the wings.. Ruben Patterson is sorta like a TA.
Maybe Doleac.. as an emergency.. fuke!

I don't get it. I wasn't asking a question. I'm tallking about our current roster.
I know about Mutombo and that we wanted to wait on someone else. That made sense. Our 2nd unit is stuggling with offense more than defense. Ainge is waiting for a big off the bench that can defend and provide some offense at the same time.
I even started that tread about two weeks ago stated that Mutombo alone wouldn't help us get a ring because of his lack of offense. Mutombo would be an upgrade over Powe and Davis, but isn't really what Ainge was looking for. Morning, P.J., and Joe Smith would fit our teams need more than Mutombo. Ainge took a gamble IMO in thinking one of these 3 players may become available. Let's hope the gamble pays off.

Ruben Patterson is a better scorer than TA and is more physical. He is also a better rebounder and is bigger than TA at 6'7. Neither one has a good outside game. TA is not the player he used to be before the injuries. He has been a disappointment considering the team had bigger hopes for him with the departure of Posey. TA hasn't stepped up and should be a 10th or 11th man off the bench until he can show some hunger.
We can't get Patterson because we don't have roster spots. A backup SF is not a priority for us right now. We need a big and a true PG in the 2nd unit. Also we are holding that back up SF position for Bill Walker.
As far a Doleac, he has had his moments here and there, but his best years are behind him. And he never had any decent years. He is not an option.

If we can't get Mourning or Joe Smith, I'd bring in Scott Pollard. I like what he brought for the short period he was healthy. He's very physical.
