Who thinks we have a shot at 8th seed?

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Thu Jan 22, 2009 2:56 pm

I am starting to honestly believe we got a chance. In my mind we have to beat out the Bucks. It's pretty even between us and them. They have way more talent and the things you need to win but are soft compared to us. It's gonna be close and were gonna have to overachieve and win some games maybe we shouldn't or aren't expected to and not let any easy ones slip but from an objective point of view I think we got at least a 50% shot.

You only say that because your boyfriend RJ plays there :D...

Seriously, It will be difficult to make the playoffs. Even though we are only 2.5 games out, there are 4 teams in front of us and it wouldn't be crazy for Toronto to get back into it either. The problem is even if we win games we don't necessarily make up any ground because one of those 4 teams will surely win too. And when we lose, we surely lose ground because one of those 4 teams will probably win their game.

I think we can do it. We should be able to pass Chicago and the Knicks as I feel we are a better team. The trick is going to get by the Bucks and Nets. And the 2nd half of the season we play more road games than home games. It wont be easy, but we are a much improved team. We just need more firepower if LB can figure a way to get it. Our defense is quite good, but we have to find more scoring. DJ coming back next week helps, but wont alone make up the difference.

The whole argument about there being a bunch of teams ahead of us is odd to me. Just beat them when you play them? What's the big deal? Making up 2.5 games is certainly do-able however, we've got a ton of games on the road and a lot of basketball to play.

Let's hope the team stays healthy and continues to win the games they are supposed to and a few they aren't. They are going to have to play >.500 in order to get in. That's typically a tall order for a Bobcat team.

If the Bucks have more talent, then we have the better team. Only problem is we have 24 games on the road, and 16 at home. Including two west coast road trips of 4 games or more. It's not going to be easy but if the bench can win a handful of those games for us then we will definintly have a great chance.

No injuries! Or we're skrooooood.

Firepower can come from the bench. DJ is solid, but we need more bench scoring. Bonnell has a blog about this..

Morrison needs to step up. Carroll is gone and Adam needs to pick it up on the bench. Dj can't do it by himself.

Haha, during the game against the Grizz last night, I could hear some guys on the TV screaming at Morrison to shoot the ball. He sucks lately at just making jumpers. But whenever he has some kind of post up move or screen or attempt on the run I feel like it's always gonna go in. Why doesn't he just go balls to the walls aggressive when he gets in the game? I mean, LB isn't putting him in there to make passes and play defense... he's in there for scoring because we need it. Can someone maybe tell him that?

The Bucks are more talented then us. They have 3 stars, Sessions, luke who isn't that bad, Charlie V that luc macabote macablote or whatever his name is. Plus we haven't seen what Joe dan do.

Lets see how they do in a head to head

Bogut vs Mek-This is tough. Bogut consistantly plays both ends of the floor and has alot less 8 point games but I will call this a tie.

PF-Charlie V vs Diaw-Edge Diaw

SF-RJ vs Crash RJ wins

SG-Redd vs Bell Redd wins

pg's Luke and Sessions vs Fetlon and DJ If Felton keeps it up and DJ comes back 100% us with a skught edge. Tie for now untl DJ comes back.

We win 1 position, they win 2 and there's 2 ties. Closer then I realized.

^^Wallace is better then RJ since he plays on both ends.

U guys have a very good shot @ the 7th/8th seed so long as Mek/Diaw/Crash stay healthy, only 1 of Felton/Raja/DJ get hurt at a time (so far so good), and ya don't trade for Eddy come touch it Curry.

January was supposed to be a real hardcore schedule stretch for the Cats and so far it's a 7-4 record with wins vs top teams like the Celts/Pistons/Blazers/Suns...

Okafor is better than Bogut and Wallace is better than Jefferson.
First time I have heard the Bucks have three stars.......Maybe, they have one in Michael Redd.

I hate to be the one to break this to you guys but RJ plays D. He not only plays it but plays it very well. RJ is there best player. He is the best player between the 2 teams.
Crash is my man to so I don't want to list all his negitives for another sf's positives so I am gonna just say Im sure about this but if you want to disagree that's your right.

We should beat out the Bucks and Nets I hope. There not as mentally tough as LB will have us after the break.

Larry Brown is the X factor because he is the best coach of the playoff hopefulls.

Let's see:

Wallace kills Jefferson's rebounding numbers, get's more than twice as many blocks and steals, shoot's a higher percentage, is a better passer, has the same scoring ability, and is a tougher player.

I will go with Wallace.

Crash is clearly a better player than RJ, both this year, and since he came to Charlotte. This is typical of people falling in love with guys who score 20ppg. Crash puts up 2-4pts less (on better fg%) and is FAR FAR better in every other aspect of the game.

RJ isn't the on the ball defender that Crash is.
RJ isn't the help defender that Crash is.
RJ doesn't Rebound like Crash does.

It's true that RJ is an OK defender, you might even say good. But Crash is an ELITE defensive player his defensive rating is in the top 20 for the league and I believe he has finished as high as 10.

Btw...
RJ's PER the last 4 years
14.2---17.4---13.8----18.9
Crash's PER the last 4 years
18.7---17.5---19.8---21.3

Crash is better every year, and unlike Crash, RJ has a couple of really crappy seasons mixed in.

You might say that these are only stats but the only things not included in Stats, (like defense) are a clear advantage to Crash. If RJ can't win the Stats what can he win?

You might say the team situation is different, but Crash has never had (offensive) teammates the caliber of Jkidd, Vince Carter or even Michael Redd.

Clearly a worse player, Admit it!

RJ is the definition of average..I think he's a declining player who has been exposed a bit not playing next to superstars like Kidd. His PER and other stats are very average.

I think the Cats have a decent chance at the playoffs but this upcoming road trip will tell alot. I'm also concerned about the bench.

Dexmor has made two idiotic statements in this thread.

1). The Bucks have three stars.
2). RJ is the best player between the Bobcats and Bucks. (Talk about homerism)

I would take Okafor, Wallace, and Diaw over RJ. I would also take Redd and Bogut over RJ.

Well, I think we have a strong liklihood of catching the Bucks now. Hate it for them, but Redd is done for the year with torn ACL and MCL. Very good player and I hate to see anyone lost to injury. But you have to take advantage of other team's woes. No one pitied us when we lost Crash with his concussion last year. It is a dog eat dog world.
