I'm unsure of myself on this one and was hoping for some quick reassurance. Because Redd is out for the season with an injury that occurred after November 30th, but is only ruled out for this season and not next season, the Bucks do NOT get a DPE this season, correct?
Or am i confused?
Also what is the logic behind the post November 30th rules as compared to pre November 30th?

I got a way to defend it. Bring a bat to the game and kill one of them."

Looking at the CBA, you appear to be correct.
As to the logic, it's another case of "NBA Logic". It was probably a date that was negotiated at 3am during a marathon negotiating session between the league and the player's assn. Here's a guess as to why they picked November 30th. Since the NBA year runs from July1 to June 30, November 30 is the midway point of the NBA year. So they'll only allow a replacement player if there's more than half a year left.

Re: Disabled Player Exception
Actually Nov 30 is during the first 5 months after July 1, so I don't think the date is a 50-50 thing.
My take on the "logic" is that they chose Nov 30 essentially to make it a "full-season injury" (or almost) that you get an Exemption Replacement for. The bulk of July 1 thru Nov 30 falls prior to any games being played (offseason July-Sep, training camp Oct, first few games of the season in Nov). If it's just a partial season injury, it's tough luck - but all teams have partial season injuries of all sorts of degrees so there aren't any special exemptions granted for Normal Life.

That'll teach me to try and count after a sleepless night. It looked like a good idea at the time.
