Look who

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Feb 13, 2009 3:40 pm

Josh Smith, who was there for the worst of seasons, sat at his locker pondering the much-improved state of the Atlanta Hawks.

“How many games did we win last year?” he asked.

Thirty-seven, someone replied.

“Well, we’re only six games behind that,” Smith quickly deduced. “That just shows the maturity and hard work in the offseason to get us where we are right now.”

Yep, the Hawks are sitting pretty at the All-Star break, holding down the all-important fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 31-21 record—their best mark at this point in the season since 1996-97.

Good to see a Hawks story somewhere other than the AJC. I'm happy with the record so far, but now we have the dreaded circus trip. Where we stand after that is going to be a big indicator in my opinion on the chances at that 4th spot. When we host Miami on the 27th if we are still 2 games or more ahead in the race for home court then we should be good. Of course we really need to play well on that night as well.

Just in case it gets real tight, we are looking okay in tiebreakers as well. We have the tiebreaker on Detroit, we've split 2 with Miami down there and host the remaining 2, we've split with Philly, but have 1 left in their gym.
