OT: ASG - it's FAN tastic

Post#1 » by pancakes3 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:26 pm

Figured we haven't had an OT thread in a while so I thought I'd post one.

THOUGHTS:
-Durant was en fuego last night - a man among boys, an all-star among wannabe's. But, it's just so damn tough out in the west to get on an all-star team at the forward position even with Garnett gone. How much longer until Durant is voted in? Who will give up their all-star pass first - 30 year old Dirk or 32 year old Duncan? As a reserve would you rather have Amare, Durant, or... David West?

-Horse will be very interesting tonight. To whoever poo-pooed the lineup - it's not ideal but this is better than i expected. I hope it doesn't degenerate into a half-court chuck-off though I can see Durant getting lazy and turning this into a powerade commercial. I'd like to see some behind the backboard shots, some blindfold stuff, sit-down 3 pointer, etc.

- Dwight Howard got about 250x more votes than Mo Williams

- There are no foreigners out of 14 candidates in the east, and 5 foreigners (4 if you don't count duncan) out of 12 candidates in teh west.

- Nate Robinson is played OUT as a dunk competitor. If he takes more than 3 tries on any dunk, i'm trowing my drink at the TV.

- The celebrity game was about 2 hours too long.

Durant basically gave a big FU to the NBA coaches who didn't vote for him. Even before this game, I said he should have been a Western Conference All-Star. David West shouldn't be in the game, and it's debatable whether Amare Stoudemire has been better than KD.

People get WAY too fixated on OKC's record without looking at the talent (or lack thereof) Durant is surrounded with.

They have 13 wins right now. Pretty bad. But can you possibly imagine what their record would be WITHOUT Durant?

NBA all star weekend is a billion times better than any sports All Star festivity.

My only complaint is that they keep bringing Nate Robinson back.

The 3pt shooters this year are horrible. If Gil was healthy, he'd give Kapono a run for his money. Nice try Roger!!

I was pulling for Mason, to bad he missed so many shots.

It's to bad Le-Travel did'nt play in the H.O.R.S.E contest, one of his shots could have been the crying crab step left handed lay-up.

The judges for this dunk contest spoiled it for me. Dwight did not deserve a 50 for his first dunk. Rudy got robbed. Dwight's second dunk...Christ talk about anticlimactic. All that build up and that's all you do with a 12ft rim...seriously?? Boooooooo!!! Waste of athletic ability, and he got a 50 to boot. He could take a pi$$ on the judges desk and they still give him a 50.

Agreed completely.

Dwight Howard had 4 50's and won the contest before this day even started.

Fernandez had, arguably the 2 best dunks in the entire competition and he was in last place....

The fix is in, ladies and gents. The fix is in.

I haven't watched the contest, precisely because the judges do always tarnish the thing. I'll be much happier just watching video of the dunks tomorrow morning, no buildup, no fan voting, and no other useless hoopla.

Agree that Fernandez got jobbed. If he'd had Gasol throw a regular pass from the beginning he would have had more pull with the judges, but it still might not have been enough. He's just not a big enough name.

Oh and one more thing...Nate Robinson is NOT from this planet!

What about when Nate did like 50 tries to win a couple years ago? The bias was sooooo blatant.

If the judges were this horrendous this year. Good lord what are they going to do next year when LeBron supposedly competes. Geez, does he even have to dunk? Just send him the award now. Save us the schlong lick fest.

I agree with you, but it should be interesting to see what LeBron can actually do.

Can anyone currently not institutionalized say to me with a straight face that Dwight Howard deserved a 50 on his first dunk and a 50 on his second dunk?
