Wolves/Hornets

Post#1 » by cutthecrap » Mon Feb 16, 2009 4:47 pm

The word out of New Orleans is that the Hornets are willing to trade Tyson Chandler...with OKC as a likely trade partner.

How about this type of a deal...

NO send T.Chandler and a 2nd round DP

MIN sends Collins, Booth, McCants and Celtics 1st round pick

This gives the T-Wolves the center to partner with Big Al/KLove for the future and allows the trading of 3 expiring contracts for value!

If that ESPN report is correct, then I think the Wolves can close the deal by adding Pekovic instead of the Celtics pick. Hell, add it with the Celtics pick for Chandler. If they land Chandler, Pekovic is not needed and that Celtics pick likely won't pan out and it's guaranteed money.

I'd be happy to get him, but if he goes to OKC, that makes our off-season better if we can move Miller and Cardinal and create more space under the cap. It looks like POR will use RLEC as well.

Only been half watching the NBA with limited time and such. How does the TOR/MIA trade affect the 2009 Market? MIA no longer a player, Toronto now in there or are both out?

How about a pie-in-the sky combo:

To the Blazers:
- Miller
- Collins

To the Hornets:
- LaFrentz
- Rights to Pekovic
- Utah pick
- 2nd rounders from both Wolves and Blazers

To the Wolves:
- Bayless or Batum (I prefer Batum)
- Chandler

Highly doubt Portland trades Batum. Sounds like they love him. More likely to be Outlaw, which isn't half bad.

Compared to Batum, Outlaw would be just about half bad ;)

It will be interesting to see if Portland deals LaFrentz before the break of if they wait until the off season.

Am I the only one not sold on Batum?

SnP--I know you like Ariza, wouldnt Outlaw bring a similar game? Outlaw is a very smart player, good offensive rebounder and hustles in his role. I think he would be a very positive player for our team.

I'd take Ariza in a heart beat. He brings quite a bit more to his team than Outlaw does to his. Granted, he plays for the Lakers but his on/off Oreb rate is +0.8 while Outlaw is -2.3. His adj +/- is 2.09 compared to Outlaw's -2.18. An interesting thing about Outlaw is that he plays with Batum so you can get a bit more context than you can with just Outlaw vs. Ariza. Batum has a + 4.68 adj +/- and a +2.8 Oreb differential. Batum has a 7 foot wingspan with legit height, athleticism, and youth.

Plus, he's cheap. Value-wise, I think he has more potential compared to a guy that basically is a cross between Gomes and Brewer (Outlaw).

If I was going to play with it a little, I'd change what NOH is getting. While the #1 thing the Hornets want is to get under the lux next season, #2 is to still compete. If they take RLEC, they get his insurance, but they are guaranteed to lose production from an already thin front court. I don't know how much of an upgrade POR sees Miller, but if they like him more than Outlaw, I'd probably go this way:

NOH GIVES: Tyson Chandler
NOH GETS: Jason Collins (exp), Channing Frye (exp) + UTA pick + $2 mil TPE

MIN GIVES: Mike Miller + Jason Collins + UTA pick
MIN GETS: Tyson Chandler + Travis Outlaw + Shavlik Randolph

POR GIVES: Travis Outlaw + Channing Frye + Shavlik Randolph
POR GETS: Mike Miller

NOH: Salary removed, Chandler and maybe even Collins would get some minutes, and the UTA pick doesn't add salary until 2010. This also creates a $2 mil TPE, which they could use to add more talent.

MIN: Adds salary but adds talent

POR: Miller > Outlaw (?). Frye won't help them, and this saves the RLEC expiring.

EDIT: I had to add Randolph to keep POR under the lux this year. It might help both teams if we changed this to Bayless, and MIN sent them a an asset. and vet-min Kevin Ollie

I don't think Portland would be enamored with that deal spink.
My Kobe Bryant website I designed myself: http://personal.stthomas.edu/dnnguyen/kb24.

The question that I don't have an answer to is whether POR views Mike Miller as an upgrade to Outlaw. Its probably something I shouldn't admit, but the Blazers bore me, and I don't really keep close track of who's valuable, and who isn't there. If both sides want to use Batum instead of Outlaw, or Bayless +, or Sergio .. I just don't keep a close eye.

I'm wide open to suggestions on the POR end. What works for both teams?

Mike Miller = Channing Frye expiring + ____________ ?
