Free roster spot. What to do with it?

Post#1 » by Dr Aki » Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:43 am

okay, so the lakers traded mihm and cash away for a conditional 2nd rounder which doesnt mean squat

what now?

what players do people see getting bought out before March 1 and therefore be eligible to be included on a playoff roster?

im sure the lakers will be picking up someone cheap simply because its small insurance to have a full 15-man roster

so much the same as what we did with ira newble

what players do you think the lakers will be looking at signing for the vet's min? MLE? LLE?

im holding out that we outbid boston for joe smith and screw boston's backup plan

We should have Mbenga be our enforcer now. He should go in the game and knock heads around for 6 minutes a game and get under their skin. Mihm was pretty useless out there these last few games. If Mbenga blocks and rebounds decently it'd be an upgrade over Mihm. As for the extra roster spot? I have no idea what to do with it. Please don't mention Shaq. It's just ridiculous. Our last two moves were clearly financial decisions. It's quite peculiar that we are making financial saving moves in the middle of the year. Especially since we gave up a big guy in Mihm when Bynum's out. But I am now convinced more than ever that we will resign lamar this off-season due to these last two moves. Otherwise why try so hard to save money during the season? I see Lamar's agent actively calling Buss and Kupchak every day since Bynum's been injured telling them to take care of his guy. To extend him already. Now that Bynum went down, and Lamar's been beasting recently. And now with these financial trades. I just think resigning him is going to happen. What do you guys think?

^^ that lamar's resigning has nothing to do with what the lakers might try to sign with their final roster spot for the playoff run

unless of course the lakers are offering anything more than a 1yr deal, the chances are of which is next to zero

I love those cough drops. I'm using them now because I have a cough. :(

If we could get a decent backup pg for very little money to back up Fisher and Farmar, I wouldn't mind.

 brown becomes the defensive point guard we need.

now just need insurance in the middle and an enforcer. I'm not sold that Mbenga is it, and Joe Smith is leaning to being bought out and sign w/ the Celtics to be the P.J. Brown-esque answer. guess wait till all the vets are bought out, whats the date they have to be bought out before they can sign and be eligible for the playoffs?

If Joe Smith becomes available, I would definitely use some/most of our MLE on him for the remainder of the season. That way, come next season he's off the books and allows us to resign Trevor and Odom.

And.. close, Frantik. It was the day before yesterday, against the Hawks. Tuesday night.

Usually you pick a player that fills a hole for you. With Fish, Kobe, Lamar, Pau and maybe Bynum. The only weak spot would be the small forward. Luke and Ariza could easily have bad games in the playoffs and we would need a vet to stable that position.

Anyone know of a good vet SF?

vet SF?

id prefer a proper backup big man, simply because our big men sometimes tend to get into foul trouble and i dont want mbenga for any long stretch of time

and also because both cleveland and boston need better big men
