Trevor should shoot more 18 footers!!

Post#1 » by BallAboveAll » Sun Mar 15, 2009 2:07 am

Man. Has anyone noticed that he's been nearly automatic from a few feet inside the 3? I mean he doesn't shoot those nearly enough. His driving ablility is good but at times he tries to drive when nothing is there. I think he should switch it up a little and pop a few more 18 footers.

I wonder what his percentage is for shots in between 15-19 feet.

He's got a decent action on his J so I wouldn't mind him taking those shots but every time he takes a 3, its like Sasha trying to dunk.

Code: Select all

Shot    Att. eFG%     Ast'd  Blk'd   Pts
Jump    57%     .425      80%     2%     3.3
Close    28%     .520      52%     14%     2.0
Dunk    12%     .887      66%     0%     1.4
Tips      4%     .438      0%     0%     0.2
Inside   43%     .615      54%     9%     3.6

Here's a breakdown of his shooting details and although the range is not clear he shoots a pretty low % on his jumpers.

so trevor should only take shots that are, layups/dunks and jumpers that are at least 15ft out

and it also means trevor has absolutely no post game

One of the thing that pisses me off is when Ariza does that Kobe fadeaway jumpshot. He forces it sometimes. Shooting a fadeaway jumpshot is not in his game yet.

he may have working on it during practice, if he never tries it, how will he ever add it to his game?

much like bynum, apparently he has the skyhook but until he whips it out in real-game situations, its not a part of his game

The chart is pretty good from where I stated. From inside the arch around the 16-18 ft range is his highest percentage shot. Other than dircectly in the paint. From straight on and a little to the left he's 58% and 50% respectively. From the right wings he's 46%.

About his fadeway a lot of those come when the shot clock runs down and he has to put up a shot.

im not sure how many coaches want their players shooting long 2 pointers, its the lowest percentage shot out there, and doesnt provide the reward that shooting 3 pointers has

No 3's are the lowest percentage shot out there. If you look at it overall basically every team in the league shoots under 40% from 3. A lot of times it would serve some players to take 1 or 2 dribbles in and pull up for a shot.

Only San Antonio shoots around 40% as a team from 3.

what im trying to say is the worst "risk/reward ratio" shot you can take is the long 2-pointer

if u shoot 40% from 3 its equivalent as shooting 60% from 2

not only do you not get the whistles that far out from the basket, taking long 2-pointers also doesnt reward you as much as it would if you shot every long jumper from outside the 3pt line

because even if you statistically hit less, your end-measurement of success is the number of points you put up

dunks and threes are where it's at
