Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
Start a lineup of Nash-JRich-Marion-Amare-Shaq, Marion would give us the true defensive stopper we need and he could make up for Amare's lack of rebounding. He's still very athletic and proven to be only effective in this system.

Marion doesn't feel like being a Sun anymore, so why bring him here. We part ways last season and wish marion the best elswhere.

He's going to want a much higher salary than the Suns Front Office is willing to pay for. If he can come back cheap it would be fantastic but given his ego it is unlikely.

i think he knows he wont get big $$ from anyone and i was hoping he'd realized he's not as good as he thought. my thinking was that he is 30 and wants to win a ring more than $$

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
marion definitly would be a beast on this roster. with nash. if we decide to let nash walk thant there is no chance that we need him.
i loved him back in the days and i hope he now realizes that he is nothing without nash and without a run-n-gun style. marion on the minimum??? hell yeah..

Yeah I would love him back but no way we could afford him. Unless you do a S/T with like Toronto or the Suns picked up someone in a trade that they could cut for immediate cap savings, I don't know how. Man it would be great if he were back but I don't know how.

Bigger question is would he want to come back? We probably only have one more season with either Nash and/or Shaq before rebuilding. Plus the way the trade ended was on bad terms.

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
A Toronto reporter said to Marion, something along the lines of "since the economy has tanked and money is so tight" had he thought about offers in the MLE range when it came time to negotiate.
Marion looked at him like he'd grown another head. Reporter said it was apparent from the reaction it had never crossed his mind that he wasn't going to be getting $13-$17+ mil a year in his next deal.
Shawn has shown himself to be a 12-15/10 guy in Miami and TO, one who can play defense and brings some intangibles with him. How he figures that's superstar qualifications ....
If he got his mind right I'd love to see him back here. I'd happily do JRich for Shawn and a sweetener - wouldn't mind Parker here either. Doesn't help us with youth but I know I'm not the only one who thinks highly of AP.

I'd like him back here, but he wouldn't come back. And we don't have the money to entice him to come either.

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
This is crazy talk...Marion for min??? Marion sucking??? We all know if asked this question when he was in PHoenix the answer would have been different. That's because different systems and a bad ego have gotten in the way of his true game for the past couple of seasons.. Come on guys, remember who the consensus #3/4 fantasy pick was? Remember the intangibles??? the gap he left here should be proof enough of his talent and what he brings to the court.
A 30 year old Matrix is a huge asset in the NBA, you do realize 30 is considered in a player's prime right?
Of course he would never sign for MLE money.

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
Given his recent production, I'd put his value around 10-11 million a year for 3 years.

Could you guys afford Kirilenko? He would thrive in your system, and he's 28

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
Kirilenko would be great and help a lot of the defensive problems. With him you could play Amare at the 5 (or he would play 5 sometimes). However I don't see how Utah gets rid of him.
I would also love the Raptors resigning Marion for like 8-9 million and trading him with Anthony Parker for Richardson and like Tucker. Would never happen, but would be a nice pickup.

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
As a Suns fan first and a Raptor fan second I can tell you Marion is not the same player he was here. It's not just the system either.
He can't shoot at all anymore. His outside shots (not that he takes many any more) hit the side of the backboard. Whenever he takes it in it himself it's always some awkward floater that rarely goes in. Trust me he's not the same.
He'd be shooting around 40% if it wasn't for the gimmes Calderon gives him and the garbage buckets he gets. I know people said that about him in Phoenix, but at least here he could knock down some shots and finish around the rim. He is not the finisher he once was.
His defense also isn't there in Toronto. Maybe he's lost interest, but even when the Raptors were a long shot for the playoffs Marion was getting lit up.
He has not proven he's a 15 and 10 player in MIA/TOR, he's proven he's a 12 and 8 guy. Even then that's only if you give him 34-36 minutes.
He's not a big enough upgrade over the Hill/Barnes combo to warrant any kind of contract over 7 million. Especially now on this team with Amare and Shaq. You replace Barnes minutes and reduce Hill's minutes for Marion and you're losing outside shooting and ball handling. This team can't afford to lose outside shooting. Not with Amare and Shaq inside.
You guys realize that the Suns are one of the best rebounding teams right? That's not a big concern with a healthy Amare.
I mean I'd love Marion here, but not at the price he'd come at.

Good points you make here, but IMO you're still selling Trix short. Most of your complaints revolve around shooting...ever since that goofball brought that awkward shot to the court everyone knew that shooting was not what he was about. So shoot me but a defensive and rebounding specialist is not expected to take a $5 million pay cut cause he doesn't hit 3's as well as he used to.
Marion's main attraction is his defense, rebounding skills and athleticism. Those are three things you don't "get worse at". I've watched him play plenty in Miami and I've watched him plenty in Toronto and he just doesn't care. The thing I hate about Marion is his attitude, and his performance started dropping off in Phoenix when he got unhappy, started out great the first few games in Miami til he realized that situation sucked too, and then was just pissed off about coming into a Toronto team that was having not a great season. The only obstacle in my eyes is making him happy somewhere because Trix at 100% effort means the defense and rebounding see a HUGE uptick, and you again are talking about one of the most athletic guys in the L.

Re: Suns should sign Marion in the offseason
I really like Marion but the one thing I wonder, what happens when he loses his athleticism. Does he become a nobody then? Does he have other skills to compensate?
