YS' 2008-09 Fantasy season awards

Post#1 » by Young_Star11 » Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:05 am

HONOUR ROLL:

VBA
Champ: YS
2nd: Cyrus

FFDL
Champ: Stanford
2nd: bww78

Money
Champ: bww78
2nd: YS

FFL
Champ: bww78
2nd: ssaboniss

FFKL
Champ: AlciG
2nd: nostradamus2005

AWARDS:

MANAGER OF THE YEAR: bww78

- Took a top-heavy team to FFL glory, coming from #7 seed with one week left in the regular season
- Won Money League from the #5 seed and potential momentum-breaking injuries to Amare and Monta
- 2nd was as good as he could get in FFDL, but his longevity at the top is undoubted
- only the one flop - in FFKL where he didn't get it going at all.

2ND: YS
- I know I had my annual flop in FFDL, but this was a break-through season for me.
- 2nd in Money League, always the guy who 'drafts badly', 'could contend for the consolation championship' etc. This year, my team was hot-and-cold, but put it together more often than not. There was considerable risk involved in my picks but outside of Brand, they all worked out. Came close to snaring a 9-cat title.
- 5th in FFL, not a bad effort considering the botched draft from a neat draft position, the lack of firepower, and under-performing role players
- winning VBA, fairytale run after not being perceived as a team with the depth to make the playoffs
- Even FFKL I was competitive and would've made the play-offs if healthy. 100% neutral here.

3RD: AlciG
- Had a chance to make hay with a great draft position in FFL, but blew, and he knew it, from like Week 4. Finished way down the standings. We had 13 decent teams out of 20, he was nowhere near.
- Came out of the rabble that was the FFKL, but upset the surging
- 3rd in FFDL, superb draft.
- 5th in Money League, won't have to remind him the result in the QF.

TEAM OF THE YEAR: Stanford's FFDL team
- I somehow don't think this team will be defeated for many years to come. Coady's done a superb job of moulding this team into the giant it is today. This was a league that means a lot to him, he flopped in all the others, didn't care much for them, but FFDL he stuck to it.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
YS' VBA team

- One star in CP3, and just a lot of balance all-round in the 5-cat league. Points and blocks were average, but the category mix, player mix, everything was all there. Compiled a .790 Win%, 1st in the regular season and went 4-1 and 4-1 to win the title.

ssaboniss' FFL team
- Will be disappointed to have NOT won the title, but this team engineered itself (I thought) perfectly to win himself a tough title in a 20-teamer. Unfortunately with playoffs you expect the unexpected, and he wasn't able to keep his team on top.

FALL FROM GRACE: sly

- Craig is extremely busy nowadays, and the proud history of being contenders in FFDL and FFL faded away in 2008-09 - and badly.

COMMISH OF THE YEAR: KalElen
Been a trying year in FFKL, sad that he decided not to stay. There have been many a controversy, but I think on the whole, he has handled it as best he could IMO under the circumstances. He'll be missed, but I hope he stays on in a managerial capacity.

HONOURABLE MENTION: YS
Had two leagues, must say I couldn't devote as much time, leading to some managers being slightly disadvantaged at some point during the season.

stick
Brian runs a really great league, the VBA, runs the website, and never MIA.

HONOURABLE MENTION: AlciG

- Flopped in FFL, but this was to be expected for a 1st timer in a 20 teamer
- 1st in FFKL, took the team from 7th last year to 1st this year defeating the hot favorite in the final
- 3rd in FFDL, took the team from 11th last year to 3rd this year even with Arenas out, was beaten in the semis by THE TEAM OF THE YEAR.
- 5th in Money League, not bad for a team most expected to miss the POs

There you go, fixed

Hey, as long as we're all tooting our own horns Jordan ;) I think I deserve an honorable mention for putting your own predictions to shame in the FFDL and taking the Consolation Championship.

Your RealGM season over mine? Pfft.

Was expecting some biased talk, but looking back, it's fair.

As I said, I think I am runner-up, bias or no-bias. AlciG did well, but didn't have the coverage.

Do I have to remind you what you thought of my Money League and FFL teams? Last time I checked, 1 bad prediction < 2 bad predictions

About time we had something to talk about on the Fantasy board.

at least I got an honorable mention with my team :) I thought my draft was pretty good for my position but didn't pan out that way in the finals.

You really nailed the draft apart from AI.

The folly of playoffs, period, is that the best team doesn't always win.

Blake's team was clearly not the best team on paper, but this only makes his victory even more remarkable.

actually for my team, AI wasn't that bad of a draft untill the last 2 months. He was giving me what my team wanted from him the most. Though not playing in the last 2 months could have get in the way of my regular season achievement (yet, didn't) but at the end AI's absence came back to bite my ass in the finals.
If he kept on playing at 18 ppg, 5 apg, 1.6 steals, he still would have been a top 30 player for my team's needs.

That logic would work, if you weren't 1: the commish of 2 of the most competitive leagues on the board and 2: the board moderator. So, my 2 bad predictions pale in comparison to yours...sorry Jordan, dems da' breaks when you're in charge!

I'll also add that my team actually went from last to post-season award...your teams, though underrated by me, never had any uphill climbs like that.

i'm glad you think so after everything that happened. anyways i put substantial amount of time and effort in reforming the league but in the end it didn't make much difference due to lack of effort of some members, so i definitely won't be back. i have to say that even though we had our differences i still respect what you accomplished in that league. that's the beauty of the keeper leagues, you don't always have to win in order to have a successful season
