Doc vs AJ - Tues May 12/09

Post#1 » by J-Roc » Thu May 7, 2009 12:49 pm

I was just reading this in Richard Griffin's mailbag. Doc vs AJ. What a perfect matchup.

Question: Do we boo AJ??

Baseball is different than the NBA. We can't fault AJ for going where more money was offered. We can't really fault AJ for getting hurt while he was here. At the same time, does anybody like him?

I think he'll get a mixed reaction. I personally don't have beef with AJ, as I can't fault the guy for inking such a lucrative deal, and even more so being injured for a bit during his tenure here. He had some pretty entertaining games on the hill, esp last year. .

But how nice would it be though if we unleashed the fury on him early? Sort of how we shat on Ortega last night. That would make me tear.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Hell yeah that would be nice. I was never really an AJ fan, even when he was pitching well. He always seemed like a bit of a goof.

I'm really glad he's gone. Is it true that the skanks gave him six years or am I insane for even thinking that?

I'm thrilled that he's gone because he was always a will-he, won't-he guy as far as his injuries were concerned and his peak wasn't phenomenal anyway. He's a more injury-prone version of McGowan, who's younger anyway. Burnett is a very good pitcher, certainly, and there's no reason to boo him, but I certainly won't cheer him. And I'll be cheering for the Jays to smash the crap out of every pitch he throws.

i'd boo him.. not because i hate him, but because he's the opposition, and he's now a fellow-rival.....

I don't have anything against Burnett (in fact, I'd say that I really liked his time here), but he's a Yankee now and he's facing Halladay. Sure, boo him.

If we boo'd Greg Zaun, we're going to boo AJ Burnett. Yeah, you can't blame him for taking the money, but he was inconsistent until his opt-out year and signed with a hated division rival.

Boo him just to throw him off his game, nothing personal

You gotta love the irony though, AJ leaves for greener pastures and instead ends up on a team stuggling to stay at .500 with a laundry list of distractions while the Jays get off to one of there best starts without him.

Also, remeber the last team he left? The Marlins won the world series the year after he left, I am just saying...

Actually...Burnett left the Marlins after the '05 season. They last won a world series in '03. But IIRC, AJ was injured most of that year and didn't pitch in the playoffs, so your point is sort of correct haha.
