Good evening, voters. Tonight we have another mission for you. We have to select the toughest, meanest player... yet the most coachable, work-minded player left unchosen to become the eighth player on our list come draft night.

I noticed in the seventh pick voting that a lot of you were really speaking your minds in the posts. This is where we all can learn something. I certainly don't know a tremendous amount about some of these players. But something that we write today may help shape someone's opinion tomorrow. It is great to have a little tip of something that Paydro, Slam, or Fats might have seen that I might not have. Then I start to look... and then I see it too. It helps me become a better basketball fan.

At seven we selected Jordan Hill. Prior selections were Hasheem Thabeet, Tyreke Evans, Demar DeRozan, James Harden, Ricky Rubio, and Blake Griffin. If you have noticed, in the results I have listed our selections by order picked, and by position. Of seven players picked, each plays a slightly different position. True, Rubio and Evans are point guards, but Evans can also be a shooting guard. And, Griffin and Hill are power forwards, but Griffin could slide over to the 5. Could these be things that Larry Brown is looking at regarding his input into the first round selection? And a bigger question- Do we add a combo forward or a small forward tonight? Or our first repeater at a position? I trust we will know Wednesday night! Time to vote.

Check the list. Make sure we get a good fit for the team. But keep in mind that at eight, we also need a good value. Get your guy!

Since I wrote him in last night, I have considered everything, and have reached the conclusion that
Terrence Williams is worth sitting on until selected. He has the toughness, and the drive. Come to think of it, his game looks a little like Gerald's. What's not to like about that? A little bit of Crash insurance.

You've heard of Fire and Ice. We could have Crash and Burn! :wink:

It gets a little tougher for me here... I don't see much star potential left. I think I go Terrence Williams too... fills a need, has a lot of positives going for him, and while his ceiling may not be super-high, neither is anybody else's at this point.

It's Curry v. Clark v. Williams v. Johnson v. Jennings here for me. I'll do some more clip watching tonight or tomorrow and make my selection.

Was travelling so i could not vote for the 7 pick, but i am OK with Hill.
Now i am going with Terrence Williams .
i think he can be avaivable at 12 as well and hope we are going to end up with him.

Bobcats so far have been the worst drafters since they started. The fans are no better.

Chase Budinger is an option? If anybody votes for him your insane in the membrane.

Jennings is clearly the answer here. You guys are picking top 3-5 guys with the 8th pick and 8-12 guys around 4. It's totally nuts.

For Dexmor-

Last year I anticipated that someone would use the flamethrower at me re: how are the names selected. I decided on taking five full 2 round mocks and assigning a point system for each position.
For example, Blake Griffin is 1st man listed in 4 out of the 5 mocks used, (Draft Express, NBA Draft.net, NBA Draft Guru (RealGM's own Cammo 101), NBA Draft Press, and The Hoops Report) and 2nd in NBA Draft Press, scoring 6 points. Chase Budinger rates 22 in DX, 12 in NBADraft.net, 11 by Cammo, 10 by NBA Draft Press, and 25 by the Hoops Report, for a total of 80 points. Then I simply divide Griffin's 6 by 5 and get a final of 1.2, and Budinger's 80 by 5 and get 16. Lowest number is best, like in a golf score. ( Edited to note- my figures are based on mocks as of 4/28/09)

Current scores for the nine today are:
Jennings 6.8
Clark 9.2
Henderson 10.2
Curry 11.8
Flynn 12.6
Lawson 13.2
Johnson 15.2
Budinger 16.0
Williams 22.2

Scores for those already selected are:
Griffin 1.2
Rubio 1.8
Hill 4.0 Tied with:
Thabeet 4.0
Harden 5.0
DeRozan 5.8
Evans 12.2

I just report the results of the mocks. Then I try to work with what the authors of each mock leave me. No manipulation, other than if someone gets a significant write-in vote, I can't ignore it.
It's what we call popular demand. Does that help? Oh, by the way, the next highest rated by the mocks is B. J. Bullens at 16.6. Personally, I'd rather have T Will than Mullens. He's a waste of height.

I didn't take Dex's post as being directed at Augustus, but at the people who were not voting for Jennings.

Looks like the only surprise pick over Jennings right now is Evans, and Williams will be #2, but considering we already have two point guards on the roster, I don't know why we'd pick up another 19 year old one. It's not as if it's a Rubio situation either, where the value is so high that you're obligated to pick him even as trade bait. Jennings isn't in that kind of demand.

He questioned why Chase was an option and AUS explained, very well mind you, why he was there.

Why would anyone want Jennings? He screams greedy bust to me. He is not the type of guy this team wants. He hasn't exactly lit the euro league on fire either. We need someone who can play 2nd team mins not a d-league project which is where he'll end up.

I've not voted as I know nothing about college players, but it seems to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that the talent in this draft seems lacking. Is this going to be another draft where players who should be going in the 12-17 range end up going 7-12?

Maybe this would be a good draft to trade a 12th pick?

The draft was looking really strong but a slew of players pulled out really thinning out.

I thought that the war room was designed were 'we' are the GM of the Cats, and are picking. With already DJ and Felton in the rotation, why would we select Jennings unless it was for another team??

At eight, I'm seriously thinking of trading down. Wonder if the Kings win the draft and select Griffin would they consider swapping Thompson and 23 for 12 and a 2nd (probably unrealistic)?

This draft is a huge crap shot outside of 1 and 2 (Griffin and Rubio). There are going to be some 'WTF' when teams select their picks, especially in the lottery, 3 - 14 is like walking through a field filled with landmines whilst someone is lobbing grenades at your head.

Which one of these players should rank eighth on our Big Board on draft night?
