Jarrett Jack likely to return.

Post#1 » by xxSnEaKyPxx » Fri May 15, 2009 3:26 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... same_page/

"I just called Jarrett Jack, our point guard, and we talked about what we have to do next year, and I think it's very important to get on the same page." -Danny Granger

I think this was expected, but we hadn't heard much from Jack's side. Now that we know he'd like to return and that the Pacers would like to keep him, it just becomes a question of how much. Good news though. :-)

Jumping the gun a little bit aren't we? That isn't even from Jack's side. I like that him and Granger are close though, and that he does seem to want to come back.

I don't see why Jack wouldn't want to come back. He'll have the chance to possibly start (either through competition or Ford's injury history), and even if he doesn't, playing time will be ample with all of our backup SG's leaving in FA.

If Jack is talking about what the Pacers are planning to do next year with the teams star player, and the Pacers FO has claimed they want to resign him, its likely that something will get done. Had Jack just said "I'm interested in returning." I wouldn't have taken much from that, but hes talking about what this team needs to work on in the offseason to get where they want to be next year - that shows me he expects to be back. I didn't say it was going to happen, just that its likely - which I believe it is.

Yeah, but people do things like that all the time. I agree that it's a good sign, but hardly enough for me to say that he is "likely to return".

It's encouraging news. I would really love to see Jack return, and I believe the sooner it is finalized the better.

Still, until it happens I might remain a little edgy.

I'm hearing that the Pacers fear that Jack will get an offer elsewhere that is over their budget.

Both Bird and O'Brien have expressed that concern a couple of times each.

BTW...the thread title really needs to be changed. It's grossly misleading.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Well, I still why he would leave. We have TJ Ford and more then likely, drafting a point guard in the first round. However, in the games that I did see, i liked what I saw from Jack. I really hoped he'd come back. I consider him a combo guard, which i'm not high on, but as a reserve I think he succeeds very well. I wouldn't want him to be starting and I don't think he should be getting starting type money. And even if Jack returns, I hope that doesn't change the fact that we need to go out and grab another point guard in the draft.

BTW, it seems like the Atlanta Hawks MAY have some interest in Jack... http://blogs.ajc.com/hawks/2009/05/13/n ... logs_hawks

Yeah, I am on board with count here, the title is misleading.

At the end of the day, I think Jack ends up back here, and a legit challenger to TJ Ford for the starting position at the point. The cost needs to be no more than $4.5 million per year, and I'd hesitate to go that high.

If I said he was coming back, I could see that being misleading, but Jack is talking to Danny Granger about their plans for the team next year. Something tells me if Jack planned on leaving, he wouldn't be making plans for the Pacers next season - even if he just said he wanted to come back, I wouldn't look much into it. The fact that he and Granger were on the phone talking over what they want from the team next year shows me he really wants to come back, and the Pacers obviously want him back.

If some team offers him a butt load of money, I could see him leaving - but, in this econemy, I don't see that happening unless Atlanta loses Bibby. Plus I could see the Pacers matching an offer to retain him as long as its not crazy. In all liklihood, Jack will be a Pacer next year.
