AK-47?

Post#1 » by Esohny » Thu Jun 4, 2009 1:28 pm

I've seen some discussion of something like this on the trade board, etc, but I was talking on the Jazz board about this type of trade:

Batronuj wrote:Something like this...

Jazz send:

Andrei Kirilenko
CJ Miles
#20 Pick

Minnesota sends:

Mike Miller
Ryan Gomes
Brian Cardinal
#28 pick.

If he's healthy, Kirilenko is just the type of SF that helps our team, especially on defense, it gives us a solid #2 guy behind Jefferson, and it wouldn't hurt to move up a bit on our 3rd pick. I'm not sure about the cost though, he has a pretty big contract, so this might be our big move...

He's better than Marvin Williams, but maybe not for what we'd be paying him.

Thoughts?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I've always had the impression that Kirlenko is much more comfortable playing PF, that he thinks he's out of position playing as a SF... is that right? I suppose I should ask the Jazz board.

What would the jazz board say is the reason for his drastic drop in production the last couple years?

The ex-fantasy NBA shrink has always liked Kirilenko for his steals and blocks, but the current nba-economy shrink says his $17.8 mil 2010 salary, and his injuries, and questions about his position, make it very difficult to find a trade where he makes sense in MIN.

17.8 million does make the issues rather moot.

Yeah, I guess the question was whether he was worth close to #1 guy money, assuming we thought he'd be healthy. He would be our big addition instead of a Joe Johnson. I don't have any issues with him playing the 3, and we could give him time at 4 if we didn't pick up another center, but I'm not sure I put him in that talent stratosphere.

Mostly I'm tired of arguing about Hinrich and his lack of value and what I see as weak points about Player-mentors and so forth.

As I mentioned, Marvin Williams would probably be better value for a 3 upgrade in a sign & trade. Who wants to get that bandwagon moving again?

I really like AK47.... just not for this team. He is not consistent enough from the outside and isn't a great penetrator which makes most of his points coming from post ups and put backs due to out sizing his opponent. Well, that was my take on him last time I really watched him, though it has been a few years since then. He is closer to a 4 then a 3 in my book, so with Love and Jefferson, I would not be a fan of this trade, especially at his contract.

Funny thing is, if we had kept Mayo and worked something out with Utah for AK47, that fit would have been much better. Now, MN may not have had the pieces to make the deal, but given the cap hit from his contract, Utah may have listened...

EDIT: spacing

That being said I would probably do something based around ak47 + the unprotected nyk pick, but it is not a deal that Utah would entertain in the slightest.
