Trade no.1 (between Atlanta & Golden State)
Hawks get:
Monta Ellis
Brandan Wright
Warriors get:
Josh Smith
Acie Law IV
*This deal would be officially completed with Smith and Ellis have their BYC status removed
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
They fill the PG position with a young, dynamic guard in Ellis (also a GA native). I think he would fit perfectly with JJ in the backcourt and is a definite upgrade from Bibby in terms of talent and quickness. B-Wright has been a disappointment, but could turn things around with a fresh start in a new city. He definitely has talent, but hasn't really been used properly in Golden State.
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WARRIORS:
A frontcourt of Smoove, Biendrins, and Randolph would be sick-nasty. Very few teams have that combination of size, athleticism, and shot blocking. This would allow them to definitively draft a PG with their lotto pick (probably B-Jennings or J-Flynn) and use that player in a larger capacity next season. Though they get Law as insurance.
Trade no.2 (between Atlanta & New Orleans)
Hawks get:
MoPete
Hilton Armstrong
Hornets get:
Speedy Claxton
Randolph Morris
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Peterson adds quality depth to the perimeter and Armstrong would replace Pachulia as the primary backup big.
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HORNETS:
Cost-cutting move.
DRAFT:
No.19 pick - Jeff Teague
why?
A lot of mocks have Teagur falling to us at 19. I hope we pick him up because the kid is oozing with potential. He reminds me a lot of Rodney Stuckey.
FREE AGENCY:
Re-sign Marvin Williams - 3 years/24 million (with a player option on year 2 and team option on year 3)
why?
This is a shorter-term deal, but for a good-sized yearly salary. It's a similar approach to what Bron, Bosh, and Wade did. They took 3-year contracts with options to provide greater freedom down the road. Marvin could take this contract and then potentially opt out in 2011 to try and cash in when the economy is better.
Re-sign Flip Murray - 2 years/4 million (using a portion of the MLE)
why
Flip was fantastic off the bench and hopefully he can continue producing off the bench with the stability of a 2-year contract.
Sign Chris Wilcox - 2 years/4 million (using a portion of the MLE)
why?
Wilcox would provide solid depth off the bench. He would at least ease the loss of Smoove by providing some good dunk highlights.
Sign Mikki Moore - 1 year/league minimum
why?
He didn't play very much with Boston, but he could help us off the bench, just in case of injury.
NEW HAWKS ROSTER:
PG-Monta Ellis/Flip Murray/Jeff Teague
SG-Joe Johnson/Morris Peterson
SF-Marvin Williams/Mo Evans
PF-Brandan Wright/Chris Wilcox
C-Al Horford/Hilton Armstrong/Mikki Moore
-I think this team is definitely upgraded from the current incarnation. It would be tough to deal away Smoove, but his antics during the playoffs may inspire management to look for potential deals that strengthen the team. I think adding Ellis to the backcourt would be huge, especially in terms of taking some of the scoring load off JJ. The bench is deeper and more potent as well. Best of all, since we let Bibby walk, the team is in a good position financially to re-up JJ next summer and will be in a great spot come 2011 when MoPete, Evans, and Wright come off the books.

Re: New Hawks Off-Season Plan...
I don't like dealing Smoove, but I can't get to upset with what we get back. I would rather go after a Center F/A though Petro, Kwame Brown, or Theo Ratliff. Or, trade Chillz rights to the Clippers for Kaman or work out a sign and trade deal, which ever could be done. I don't want Horford at Center. If we keep him I want him at the 4.
Ellis/Brevin Knight
JJ/Flip/Morris Peterson
Marvin/Evans/Morris Peterson
Horford/Frye/Solo
Kaman/Hilton Armstrong
How about that?
I think NO what to hang on to Armstrong though.

Most Hornets fans hate Hilton...and for good reason...he's a scrub. Very limited offensively and is a horrible defender and rebounder for his size.

Re: New Hawks Off-Season Plan...
Ellis would make a very good fit next to JJ. They compliment each other very well - both on O and D. It wouldn't surprise me if Wright showed that he could make us forget about Smoove pretty quickly - he has shown more in his limited minutes than Law. I like the trade - just dunno if GSW would agree though.
Not as high on the NOH trade. Don't hate it, but it seems like a fairly lateral move. We don't give up anything, but we don't get much back either. Armstrong is big, but hasn't shown much else; Mo-Pete looks done. Ditto for Morris and Speedy though...
If we get Ellis, I don't see the need for Teague. OTOH, Teague is a talent though.
Overall, it's a decent off-season. Ellis would be a nice upgrade @ PG and his quickness would add a very nice element to the team. Our front court would still be a ? though - at least we'd be deeper though.
The only thing I'd mention is that if we trade Smith for a PG scorer like Smith, it might not be a bad idea to consider moving Marvin to PF and get a shooter @ SF. Surrounding JJ and Ellis with a bunch of shooters could yield a very good team. If Horford and another C could hold down the fort 1-on-1 against another C, we'd have a potential deadly O.

If Murray were willing to sign for that the hawks could use the BAE and still have the whole MLE to spend.

We can't trade Chills rights. We can only trade Chills as a player.

Overall not a bad plan, but I had a question: What antics are you talking about with respect to Josh Smith in the playoffs? Not saying there weren't antics, just want to be clear about what you are referring.

Re: New Hawks Off-Season Plan...
I don't need to search him. I know what he brings..... not much and shoot from three point line well sometimes. That's why I have him way down on the depth chart. I only added him to make the salaries work. His salary would be for two years the same time Bosh would need to be resign and you would just let Kapono walk.
