Raptors start the bidding with:
Hump or Pops(S&T) + Graham(S&T) + 3 Mill Cash + 2nd Rounder
For
#12 + Nazr's contract
and is subsequently flamed

.
What's the #12 worth to your team?

other then Hump and Graham, a 2nd rounder and Roko are about about the only thing anyone else would want not named Marion, Calderon Bosh and Bargnani. (unless of course Quincy Douby, O'bryant and Jawai interest you

).

Okay, so you want a lottery pick, but don't want to give anything good up. Good luck with that.

Humphries is garbage. No way in hell a horrid package like this will get you a lottery pick.

It's obviously not a basketball move, its a business move. Mohamed won't get traded for lesser contracts if it doesn't include something valuable like the pick in return, and Johnson is losing cash and wants to sell the team. It can't be as bad as all the phoenix trades for their picks. The players they get back are still young, and it gives them more flexibility, it can even be justified to the fans if it means they can sign Iverson. There will definitely be better talent offers for their pick, but if they will include Nazr and how desperate is Johnson is the question.
If its Pops for cheapest he can get on the market + Graham Qualifying offer + 3 Mill + future 2nd rounder is it still flame worthy? lol

GOt to love toronto fans. Hey take our crap for your lottery pick.

Get real toronto. 50 teams could offer a better deal. Even though theres only 30 teams in the league. THats hot bad this deal is.

Maybe something like Chris Kaman, some 2nd rounders for Radmanovic, filler, #12 could work.
Though, i'm not sure if the Bobcats think that Kaman and Okafor would work together, especially with Okafor moving to the 4 spot.
Also, i have a hard time finding a filler to make it work financially.

Philly could offer Louis Williams + Jason Smith
Reason for Charlotte: They grab two young guys who can be good rotation players. Smith has potential to be a good 6th man and could spread the floor somewhat. He should return healthy and improved. Louis Williams has good potential and could flourish under Brown.
Reason for Philly: They move up in the draft and add a natural center.
Not sure what team goes for it, but I like it.

I think the reason for Charlotte to trade this pick is to get some veteran, who could help them make the playoffs next year.
They've got Larry Brown as their coach and i'm pretty sure that Brown wants some more veterans on his team, so he can make the playoffs.
Smith and Williams don't qualify for that and even if it saves them quite some money, i doubt that Bobcats would do it.

From a basketball perspective you're right, the talent isn't comparable to other offers. But from a business perspective, i doubt many teams would be willing to take on Nazr's contract and send 3 Million back. Charlotte still gets young role players back and a future 2nd rd pick. Pops can fill their backup pf need, hes one of the best rebounders/energy guys in the league, so long as you don't ask anything else from him other then 15 mins of running the floor in transition for dunks and getting rebounds. While Joey can be a more veteran backup swingman, he actually played decent this season when he got minutes in between Sam being fired and us trading for Marion, he went like 12/5 on 55fg%. Phoenix traded away the 8th pick for worse then that package, and many teams sell their 1st round picks for 3 mill anyways, granted they aren't lottery picks, but this isn't exactly the best draft. 3 mill, plus not having to pay a lottery picks salary, plus dumping Nazr, saves them millions since all they take on hypothetically is a year of Joey and 1-2 years of Pops. I don't think you realize how broke the Bobcats are, they can't even afford to field a summer league team.
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports ... 75946.htmlA money saving deal like that could also give them the opportunity to go after a bigger name free agent like AI, who could lead the Bobcats to their first playoffs under Larry Brown. I don't know how popular he would be with the Charlotte crowd, but he is still one of the most popular players around the league, and the defensive presence around him in Charlotte, combined with lack of volume scorers could make for a good marriage that put fans in the stands.
I would hate it if i was a Charlotte fan unless they use the money to sign a FA. But from what iv'e been reading it wouldn't surprise me if cash is involved in a deal for their pick, and all im saying is Colangelo has 3 Mill of Cash to kill from the JO-Marion deal

.

Give it up toronto. They dont have jordan and larry brown there to rebuild this team. Charlotte easily passes and you know it.

Heh, RGM's wiretap skews the story saying our pick is in play and from that the "business" angle is then taken off with.
From that article:
Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown has never believed in drafting exclusively for need.
That doesn't mean he would object to trading the 12th pick for a veteran who would fill one of those needs.
Asked Thursday about swapping a lottery pick for a veteran this draft, Brown replied, “Whatever makes our team better.”
LB was
asked, and he gave the typical response of "we'll do whatever it takes to make our team better".
Does Humphries do that?
So if a team wants the pick I'd think it would take a vet in his mid to late 20s on a decent contract (unless Nazr is involved...then no more than a 2 yr deal) who would at least provide more impact than somene like Gerald Henderson over the next year or two.
Personally I think the draft pick is going to be hard to get; someone like Henderson (or Williams) would instantly fill a big need by providing us with a defensive backup to Raja and that skillset would be high on LB's list.

IMO the Toronto package is too much for the #12 pick. This is a horribly weak draft and there will be no real impact players at #12, Charlotte should jump on the chance to salary dump Nazr's awful contract and pick up 3 mill on top. For a franchise whose owner is trying to sell, that salary relief will be a lot better than a middling vet or something.
KT + #23 is DEFINITE overpaying for #12 + Nazr. There simply isn't enough talent in this draft to warrant the #12 much value as even the #9 and 10 aren't that valuable.

The wiretap may be skewed, but it is true that Johnson is losing millions of dollars and is looking to sell the team, and the Bobcats are looking to dump Nazr. Depending on the S&T deals, the Raptors deal would save them more then KT + 23. And if you don't want Hump, Pops is RFA and would fit in any front court nicely as a backup big as an energy guy for 15 mins, which is all any backup 4 would probably play for Charlotte anyways. The money saved would enable them to sign a free agent Larry Brown desires, like AI for example. And i don't know why Charlotte would want Williams if they're trying to trade Felton, arent they similar types of players?
I was trying to make a deal involving TOR-CHA, so all i can do is make the best possible deal between those two teams and share it, didn't mean to offend you lol. I'm not suggesting its the best possible deal out there just the best one between Charlotte and Toronto. The only better offers we can give would include Marion, Calderon, Bargnani or Bosh, and none of those guys IMO are worth the #12 pick. But i do think business wise the Raptors deal makes the most sense so far.

We're trying to trade Felton? I don't think so.
The pick will be moved if it makes our team better. Your suggestion does not do that. Trading the pick just to get out of a MLE deal that only lasts for 2 seasons is idiotic. Any future owner...since he will be tied to Charlotte for the next decade or two...will want to see a plan to turn the losses around. That answer is getting the fanbase expanded and getting them to turn out.
Please tell me how moving the pick and 13 million for crap does that when we go into the season with the same holes that killed our run at the end of the last one?
Most know MJ is going to buy controlling interest, and he's not going to gut the team.
