McGrady for Allen ?

Houston also seems to be very active in trade talk, particularly trying to move Tracy McGrady we’re told. McGrady will be out for the first 20-30 games of the regular season, but there is some thought that he might be able to help a playoff team down the stretch, particularly since he’s in a contract year. Its tough to see how many teams would be able to absorb the 20+ million dollars he’s owed next season.

Younger, taller and plays SG or SF.
Injury prone and his absence will cost us a few games early in the season.
OK with Trade Checker.

If Ray is going to be traded, it shouldn't be for a guy who arrives to games in an ambulance. Injury Prone is a monumental understatement when talking about McGrady.

No way. Why on earth would we trade for a guy whose team only got to the 2nd round because he wasn't there?

I would take Mark Blount back before I let McGrady become a member of the Boston Celtics. Well maybe not Mark Blount but you get the point.

McGrady, Bibby, Wince Carter are legendary members of the all-time overrated team. I have no use for any of them.

That would make Houston so much better. They'd be nasty. Us... Not so much.

No way in HELL!!! Trash-Mac is the worst player for this team. He's pretty much the worst player for any team trying to win.

Nope. Ray is much more durable than T-Mac, Ray actually played more than 50 games last year

Ray only goes for someone younger that can reduce the load on Paul and KG, not someone coming off a big time injury, of a similar age and no real improvement to the team

Vince Carter is better than all of those guys though and if he were traded for Allen, the Celtics would be a better team

If you thought Ray's ankles were in bad shape last year, McGrady's back is like that every season, and it's just starting to make the rest of his body breakdown. No thanks, T-Mac will probably retire in another 2-3 years and I doubt he'd help us win a title during that time span.

Why trade Ray for McGrady when we could sign the next TMac, Gerald Green, right out of free agency.

Not. Wincey is overrated. The Celtics would take two steps back if they added the spineless Wince Carter. The Nets are blowing it right now, they should be getting what they can before he becomes McGrady II which will probably happen this season. Wince is just collecting a paycheck, no heart.

I disagree. I think he'd show renewed motivation like Pierce did. He is a very talented player with almost no weaknesses. I bet he's available too as the Nets are trying to trim payroll. He is more athletic than Allen, drives to hoop better, and while his J isn't as good as Allen's it is very good nonetheless. Also, he matches up very well with Kobe and other big 2s. Ainge should call Kiki right now

No thanks. McGardy will be the highest paid player next season, ahead of Kobe, Jermaine O'Neal, Duncan and Shaquille O'Neal. Pierce, Ray and Rashard Lewis are your next highest paid players next season.

It seems redundant to trade an expiring contract for another player with an expiring contract.

It makes more sense to see him end up with New York. If New York, I would try to trade-off Eddy Curry's contract in the process. Curry has two years remaining, and can opt-out of either year. Could be a risk for Houston. However, I doubt Curry's that ambitious or unintelligent. He won't recoup that kind of salary with another team. For Houston, Curry could provide depth with Mutombo likely to retire.

Several persons with knowledge of the situation have said the Knicks would strongly consider McGrady, even as a one-year mercenary. The two could use each other: McGrady wants another mega-deal before free agency in 2010 and should be motivated to be in the best shape of his life for this coming season. And his number comes off the cap in 2010, so if it doesn't work out, the committment is short and does not impact the long-term plan.

Of course if it does, the Knicks would have to strongly consider re-signing him. Here is where I see the risk, because it's been well-documented that McGrady does not maintain any type of practice or conditioning habits. But it's tantalizing for the Knicks, who are desperate for a star-quality player who can make them a legitimate playoff contender in the East.

The Knicks could put together a package that would save the Rockets some money and include a veteran shooting guard with an expiring contract -- Larry Hughes ($13.6M) -- along with Cuttino Mobley's 80-percent insured $9.5M deal. Mobley could then officially retire with the team that drafted him (and originally knew about his heart condition). Call it full circle.
