Jefferson, Johnson, and Wolves...oh my!!!

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:11 am

First it was Jefferson to the Spurs.

Then it was Amir Johnson to the Bucks.

And the wolves get the fifth pick for Foye and Miller.

Wow, landscape of the draft looks to have changed.

Crazy stuff. Washington should be tough. A little guard heavy though - not done yet?

The Wolves seriously have like 32 picks in this draft. Just off memory, they now have 5, 6, 18, 28?, and 2 or 3 in the second round. The ESPN source said they plan on keeping 5 & 6. I'd have to assume they will take Harden and Curry with those two picks if that is the case.

They have the 45th and 47th picks in round 2. Their biggest thing is they need wings and a PG.

I could see them trading those lower picks for future ones though sense they don't have much needs beyond a backcourt.

I heard Minnesota likes Rubio. There a slight chance he falls, if not my guess is Tyreke Evans.

I'd be thinking more along the lines of Evans and Curry, but who knows.

I am operating under the assumption that Evans goes #4 to Sacramento.

Evans and Curry might be a dream back-court.

The Spurs sure are going to be good next year.

Especially after Sheed signs with them next month for $1.25 and the chance to win a ring.

I think Sheed signs in Cleveland. That's my hunch. No reasoning to support this, but he doesn't fit in with the Spurs' mentality.

Crazy night indeed. I think Minnesota actually did good. They better hope their guys they want be there. This is a weak draft and well, everyone knows what Foye can do.

Richard Jefferson to Spurs is a great move by those guys.

I don't know about Minne. Taking on the deals of Thomas is okay since he only has one more year left, and likely will be bought out there, but being stuck with Songaila, while giving up such a solid player on an expiring contract in Mike Miller, and giving up Foye for the #5? That's a bit much. If anything they got hosed on taking on Songaila's deal, but at least they didn't have to also take on DeShawn Stevenson too.

Washington got a great deal. They now have protection for when Arenas and Butler eventually go down with their long-term injury this season.

Arenas
Foye
Butler
Jamison
Haywood

6th man: Mike Miller

Looks pretty good. Probably still behind Orlando, Cleveland, and Boston; but they look like the #4 seed. right now. A lot can change though.

I like this move for Washington. It is tough to tell how much this will affect their team. They were killed by injuries, so it is kind of tough to tell.

I actually like Amir Johnson. I wonder if we can somehow swing him our way for a couple 2nd rounders or something, I don't know.

Do you guys think Miller should start over Foye?

Oooh, and what about these Boston rumors? Sounds like they made the offer and Detroit told every1 to piss off Ray Allen and Rondo. I think Rondo is good, but helped a lot b/c of Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. That'd be crazy to see if they swung a deal. They would have gotten great players, but I still kind of question the move. Why change the team chemistry and all? They already won a championship with that team when healthy.

The Wolves are overloaded in their front court now, and overloaded with late picks.

Would the pacers entertain a #13 for 18 and 28?

What about 13 for Craig Smith, 18 and 28?

I think Smith would be a great backup PF, the sort we are looking for. If Bird is targeting someone who will be there at 18 as much as at 13, it might be a good move.

I think there's a good chance of that happening. Wouldn't surprise me if Memphis is interested in trading down, since some of the top guys (Rubio, Thabeet) have been unenthusiastic about playing for them. And my hunch is that Minnesota would like to use some of their stockpile of picks to move up to #2.

I could see something like #5 + #18 for #2 taking place.

Yeah, maybe Minnesota sends Cardinal back to Memphis for Jaric again, and eats Jaric's deal, while Memphis gets to clear some salary a year earlier and really focus on 2010.

If that's the case, I could see Indy getting involved with sending Tinsley to Minnesota and taking on Jaric, so that Minnesota doesn't have to get Jaric back again.
