Lakers sell 1st rounder to Knicks Question

Since LA doesn't have a first round pick in the 2010 draft (to Memphis), at what point does this LA/NY transaction actually occur?

Does LA have to pick for NY then trade?

Or, once the draft has started is it technically no longer a "future" pick and it can by NY's?

Or, once LA is "on the clock" it is no longer a "future" pick etc?

Thanks in advance.

Once LA picks whomever New York chooses. Then it is no longer a future pick, and they can deal it.
