Kings new roster '09-'10 (SO FAR) - Now what?

Post#1 » by Smills91 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:07 am

What now?

C: Spencer Hawes
PF: Jason Thompson, Jon Brockman, Kenny Thomas
SF: Andres Nocioni, Omri Casspi, Donte Greene
SG: Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia
PG: Tyreke Evans, Beno Udrih, Sergio Rodriguez

RFA's - Ike Diogu, Rashad McCatns, Cedric Simmons

We obviously need another 7 footer on the roster. I could see the Kings targeting Heytvelt as an undrafted rookie free agent. In fact, I could see that as a near lock to landing him.

We have 12 players under contract(potentially) for next season. We HAVE to add one player to fill out the roster, and we have 7-8 million to spend in Free Agency. I could see Varejao being a main target, especially now that I don't see Cleveland re-signing him now that Shaq is on board there.

Other thoughts? I really want another SHOOTER on the roster. Dionte Christmas would be a great fit IMO.

I'm pretty certain that McCants and Simmons are gone. I would consider letting Ike become a UFA then sign him to a 1-2 year cheep contract. Otherwise, I'm not all that keen on spending money on any FAs this summer. If we were to go after Varejao, I would only do it as a S&T that moves Beno and/or Noc.

I would also be cool with Casspi staying in Europe for another year.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I like the idea of looking at Heytveldt and any others as FA camp invitees to work in as b/u. Ike is a POSSIBILITY to re-sign cheap and use (along with JT) in spot duty in a running line-up or a 2 forward 3 guard/3 forward 2 guard type of line-up.

Another possibility is Gortat 2-3 years at @ 3.5 million per.

Noooo to Heytveldt -_- Well, honestly, I'd be Ok with at least trying him out AT THE MAX >.>

I'd rather have Gortat but I think he's too expensive. How much cap do we have to play with exactly? I still wanna put a bid in on Ariza and Williams.

I think resigning Diogu cheap would be good but as for trying to sign any big FA's like Boozer, Odom, Ariza, or Hedo I say no. Wait till '10.

Smills, I truly have no idea. I am so perplexed by this draft that I do not have a clue what petrie is thinking. I hope he has a master plan, but I don't really know. By taking evans and getting a backup point guard, it makes me think that we are about to trade martin. I would LOVE to see a martin, beno and something else for deron williams or cp3, but I don't know how much I would give up outside of martin.

I'm really confused though as to why we drafted evans, then casspi, who looks like a poor-man's nocioni, when we already have a really rich nocioni, then we traded down for a backup pg when blair ended up being on the board at 31. So I really just have NO idea what direction we are heading in, I just hope it's the right one.

The kings should get ready to be in the lottery next year and the year after that. Really right now Evans is a horrible fit for the Kings but as for the roster now we need a big who can rebound and score and the Varjeo for sure and thats my pick right now.

Wow, I can't believe Christmas wasn't picked in the 2nd round! I thought he might have gone at LEAST in the first few picks after the 31st pick...ouch.

Well, it wouldn't shock me to see Petrie go after a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) FA like Frye or Varejao. With that said, the goal should be try to land Boozer via sign and trade, if you can't get Boozer then re-sign Ike Diogu and remain a little bit under the cap and hope that either Ike explodes or a trade for a star big falls in your lap. Either way, we need some help here. I'm still on the Diogu bandwagon, if he gets time he's going to pull a John Salmons and simply explode offensively.

Wouldn't be bad, I'd rather see us try and get another tough, scrappy rebounder, Jeff Adrien anyone?

I've got to admit I'm a little confused by some of the moves that are being made.

When I realized that BJ Mullens was still available at #23, I thought for sure that the Kings would take him. I thought he'd finish off a good 3 man rotation with Thompson & Hawes. After that I thought they'd take a flyer on a wing like Danny Green or D. Christmas. Alias, it was not to be.

I think that based on that depth chart, we do need another guy that we can plug in at center, whether that's Diogu or someone else. Maybe if the Clippers are still looking to move Camby we could trade for him, not that he'd be a long term thing.

I wouldn't mind adding D. Christmas to at least our summer league group and seeing how that works out.

I think it'll be a small miracle if we're on in the lottery mix next year, but I think we can make strides with some of the changes that have been made thus far.

I didn;t watch Evans in college, but he's ~6'6 strong and long, we have a PG and a SG who are very good shooters, but none of them in excellent ball handler, why not Evans at SF?

I'd like to see Martin traded, but I don't know what for yet.

Lets see how the season goes and see how Evans fits in with Martin before we even consider moving Martin. But I can definitely see how Evans can fit in

Gortat would awesome...I would love it.

I think Beno is gone. Ya ya he has a terrible contract but bad contracts are almost ALWAYS exaggerated on these boards. I dont think we acquire Rod. if we're keeping Beno...doesnt make sense.

I think we sign Gortat as our third big, and let everyone else expire.

Make a trade to upgrade at SF.

Hawes/Gortat
Thompson/Nocioni/Greene
Nocioni/Greene/Casspi
Martin/Garcia
Evans/Rodriguez

Like I said we need an upgrade at SF but other than that thats a talented team with a lot of upside.

Evans will be a star. BOOK IT!

Make a trade for an upgrade at SF...? When we have Noci/Greene/Casspi/Garcia, who can all play the SF?

I LOVE that idea, however, we do need AT LEAST one more 7 footer on the roster for depth purposes. I'd also like to get one more 'PG' and then a swingman to fill out the roster.

i did, and he's absolutely a stud. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the ROY next year.
