Will Conroy said he has signed a deal to play for Houston's summer league team with a chance to make the roster this fall.
"They tell me I've got a good chance to make the team,'' he said. "One of their scouts said they've been watching me for a couple of years and he said it's my time to turn the corner.''
Conroy said he could be competing to be a backup for Aaron Brooks, another former Seattle-area high school star (Franklin, in his case) who later attended Oregon and is now with the Rockets.
"They want me to come in and back him up,'' he said. "Obviously you want to come in and play hard and carve out minutes for youself but they want me to come in and be mature and show how to be professional and things like that.''
Conroy spent last season with Albuquerque in the NBA D-League, averaging 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and eight assists a game, which included a career-high 53 points in one game.

While in all likelihood this is strictly a Summer League signing-and maybe a training camp body-the incredibly slim chance he might make the team looks like Morey is lining up replacement players for ones he's trading away.

How many Rocket games have you seen aside from the playoffs? Lowry far exceeded anyone's expectation last year. He was a very very efficient guard for us. I don't see any scenario where Brooks/Lowry is not our point rotation unless we trade for a veteran 1.

While I agree that we could possibly get a better guard, I don't see him as a bad backup.

How are you arguing with him? He's a fairly efficient passer, and was a very efficient scorer for us last year. It's not in line with what he's done for the rest of his career, but I certainly liked what I saw last year.

Why is this guy even allowed to post on the Rockets board? He always starts up controversy by saying stupid things... his latest greatest was when he went around the board advocating Vspan (Vsuck) was better than Tmac, Yao, and etc.
