Pirates Trade Morgan, Burnett To Nationals

The Pirates have traded outfielder Nyjer Morgan and left-handed pitcher Sean Burnett to the Washington Nationals.

In return, they acquired outfielder Lastings Milledge and right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan.

Lastings still has a boat load of talent and if he can figure it out then maybe the Pirates found something. I think it's a good deal for the Pirates atleast. Joel Hanrahan does have a nice fastball and while he did lose the closer job he's got some talent as well.

Morgan is almost 30 and he pretty much sucks. He's got speed, but doesn't know how to steal bases. Burnett could amount to a solid pitcher out of the pen.

As a Pirate fan, I don't like this trade. Milledge has a ton of talent, but seriously, if he couldn't get rid of his personal issues in a good organization like the Mets, and then go to a bad team like the Nationals, and then have them trade you because you have problems, then I doubt the Pirates will bring all of that out.

Morgan was a great presence in the locker room. Everyone loved him. He is McCutchen's good friend. He is a decent hitter. Was at .277 when he got traded. 18 steals. Burnett was finally putting it together in the bullpen and having a lefty like him to come in relief, he could have fetched more next season as long as he kept it together.

I doubt Milledge realizes his potential in the Burgh and finally puts aside his issues. Waste of a trade.

Really bizarre trade for the Nationals. Does this somehow save them a few dollars so they can afford Strasburg? Only thing I can think of.

Milledge has lots of talent, or so people allege. Hanrahan is a nice relief pitcher who happens to pitch for a really bad defensive team. Nyjer Morgan is your typical speedy CF who doesn't know how to use his speed. Burnett just kind of sucks.

For the Pirates it's a clear net positive trade. When you suck, I think it's a good idea to stock up on players like Lastings Milledge. Players with lots of talent. Stocking up on players like Nyjer Morgan seems like a waste of everyone's time. All it does is ensure that you're going to keep winning 70 games a year for the next decade.

I don't like the trade for the reasons above and because it seems as if Burnett has started to learn to pitch this season. His control has been much better then I have seen in past years he has been on the big club.

I would have rather kept Morgan and Burnett because if Burnett can live up to his potential, I think that is more valuable then Milledge.

A middle relief pitcher is not worth a guy who has 5 tool potential. I'm with BG it's a good gamble for the Pirates to stock up on these type of players. Plus I really like Hanrahan.

Dude, Sean Burnett is terrible. What potential? Baseball is littered with guys like Burnett.

Sean Burnett is in fact terrible. Nice fluky ERA so far this season.

Nyjer is quite the great defensive player, although I still like this trade more for the Pirates.
