Marbury believes Celtics days are over

Post#1 » by BillessuR6 » Fri Jul 3, 2009 8:39 am

Celtics free agent guard Stephon Marbury said to The Globe early Friday morning that he doesn't expect to be returning to Boston after receiving a one-year contract paying $1.3 million using the veteran's minimum that wasn't as lucrative as hoped for.

Marbury said his representative, National Basketball Players Association deputy counsel Hal Biagas, called to tell him about the Celtics offer on Thursday night. The 32-year-old said three other teams, which he would not disclose, are currently interested.

Despite the disappointment for Marbury, he was thankful the Celtics gave him a chance after his Knicks situation ended.
"Thank you Boston for allowing the world to see me play again after all that went on in N.Y.," said Marbury, via e-mail to The Globe. "The fans treated me with open arms and that's all anyone can ask for."

I think we will offer a bit more in the end...you have to start low...If we double the money I believe he would stay...

finding a backup 1 shouldn't be that difficult... especially considering the fact that though stephon would have been promising this comming season, he played well for 4-5 games.

Saying that Lester will be a better player at this point or in the future than Marbury is taking it a little too far too soon. We haven't seen what this rookie can produce at the NBA level if he even does make the roster(likely to happen either way). If Marbury were to undergo a training camp with the C's, I think it would be safe to bet that he'd be more beneficial to the Celtics in their title run then some rookie for the upcoming season making it VERY key to retain him.

It's just a feeling that I have. Also Lester will make this team over Pruitt. Lester is a talented player than can score, rebound, pass, and play defense. He also seems like a hunger player.

Couldn't agree anymore. Seems like he should be ready to fit right into the rotation if only Doc can get over his bias of first year players.. :D
He will definitely be interesting to watch during the SL though.

Finding on the quality of Marbury might be difficult. I know he wasn't that good last year, but with a full training camp, I think he'll find his game. He's not that old.

Well that's a weird twist.

Hello Allen Iverson.

Agreed! I think we will up the money. You need to start low. The "ups and downs" of negotiations, that's all! Marbury and Sheed pick and roll would be sweet! Combustable but sweet.

Hello Allen Iverson.

I personelly want nothing to do with Allen Iverson. I used to be a big fan (G-town alum) but after what happened last year in Detriot he scares the **** out of me in regards to chemistry. I don't think even KG, PP, and Ray could sober him up.

Is it that crazy to give Gabe Pruitt a chance?

Marbury is as money hungry as they get. The guy is so cheap he won't even hire an agent. I don't doubt that he'd accept a contact that is 25 cents over minimum, but I really don't think he'll get one. I expect he'll be back here for the minimum.

There is no chance that the Celtics go for A.I. No way Wyc would go for it.

Almost traded for him three years ago. Philly was being a baby about it and sent him out west. IF Ainge thinks AI could help (not sure he can) he would be an option.

A lot has happened in those 3 years.

Like Iverson basically going off the roster because he didn't want to come off the bench.

^^ Yeah, and Sheed quit on the team last year too. But they took the whole brass to try and recruit him.

Celtics cured marburys me first ways. I think they can deal with AI.

It's a great mindset to go in with too. That no matter what the issues, if the guy has talent, we can make it work.

The question is, would AI wanna come here for so cheap? Probably not.
