Backup Point Guard

With Marbs looking like he's gone, we're probably looking at the LLE or vet min to sign someone as backup PG. The choices out there are poor...Lue, Bobby Jackson, Anthony Carter, B Knight. I think we should aggressively go after Flip Murray. With the rumors looking like Bibby is going to go back with Atlanta and Jamal Crawford now at the backup PG and SG and having drafted Teague, they don't need Flip and may not match an offer - especially if we make it early before they have figured out how much $$ they might need to save to re-sign Marvin Williams, Zaza and Bibby. Flip had a really solid year last year (12/2/2) as a combo guard. I think he has a good enough handle to bring up the ball and do the PG duties and would pair well with Eddie. He's probably looking for more than the $2M from the LLE, but in the current economic climate - it's worth a try for the full LLE for 2 years.

Also, I was surprised that Danny blew off Marbury. I can't help but wonder if he's thinking about J Tinsley. He has a NBA-union hearing on 7/27 to try to force the Pacers to play him or buy him out. I think the Pacers end up paying him off - the union's going to win. Maybe Danny wants to sign him for one year on the cheap since most other teams won't touch him. He might be figuring that if we kept Marb in line, we could do the same with Tinsley.....what do you think?

How old is Tinsley? He was nice in Indy..if he could play at that same level I'd be all for it. Bobby Jackson would be nice too..I always liked the guy..idk where he is at, how old he is, or how good he still is though.

Your rushing this way too soon. This so called 'incident' with Marbury over his contract is nothing but a negotiation. The FO will make and must make another offer towards Marbury and I believe he will be back in green come this season. DA is aware of the lack of talent in backup PGs in this current FA pool and will pursue to resign Marbury to a reasonable contract whatever that may be.

Through the first 24 games of the season, he was averaging a career-best 15.8 ppg and was ranked among the league leaders in both assists (8.6) and steals (1.96) per game...however, due to an injury to his left knee, he would make just 15 more appearances the rest of the season. At the time he was injured, he was fourth in the league in assists and second in the Eastern Conference...he scored in double figures in 19 of those first 24 games with seven games of 20+ points and a season-best 29 points in the Pacers' road win against the L.A. Clippers, 12/2."
I don't know the status of his knee, but he claims he's ready to play.

we need to get a pg that will take the minimum.

We need the full MLE for sheed, and the LLE for a Wing player (hopefully Parker or Hill).

Gotta agree with others.PG is No. 3on the list. We need length at the PF/C (which Sheed is both and that's why he is a perfect fit).That's the MLE.

At the LLE, we got to get an athletic wing, or trade some players for a wing. Once we get the big man andtheathletic wing, we then can concentrate on the PG.

Marbury should take the vets minimum IMO.

I would've an interest in either Tinsley or CJ Watson. However, Tinsley has a bad contract and Watson's a restricted free agent.

Tinsley would be the best veteran point guard option after unlikely options: Kidd, Bibby and A. Miller. And Watson could give you right now from the bench what Hudson probably won't for a few years. A regular spark...

I do. Lester is going to one of the steals in the draft. He is going to suprise people.

Rondo will be playing about 38 minutes a game. That leaves 10 minutes at back up PG. Hudson, Pruitt, and Hudosn can hold that down and even better that Marbury.

I actually do think Pruitt is better than Farmar. More importanty, I didn't see a single thing that Marbury did at the end of the season or the playoffs that Pruitt could not have done. Add to that Pruitt being taller, more athletic and a better pure shooter, and I think we have our backup PG. I always thought Pruitt did well when Doc gave him a chance, and I now think the franchise might be leaning toward giving him the backup PG spot.
