New Phoenix Suns Rebuilding Plan...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Sat Jul 4, 2009 10:10 pm

Trade no.1 (between Phoenix & Washington)

Suns get:
Javale McGee
Nick Young
DeShawn Stevenson
Mike James
future 1st round pick (top 5 protected)

Wiz get:
Amare Stoudemire (agrees to extension)
Alando Tucker

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS:
They get a good youth package in exchange for Stoudemire. McGee has boatloads of potential and could bust out if given more PT. Young has also show a lot of promise. Stevenson and James are servicable vets with short-term contracts. To top it off, they get a 1st round pick.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WIZ:
This makes the Wiz a top-4 team in the East. A quartet of Arenas, Butler, Jamison, and Stoudemire would be sick-nasty.

Trade no.2 (between Phoenix & Dallas)

Suns get:
Jerry Stackhouse
Matt Caroll

Mavs get:
Jason Richardson
Jared Dudley

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS:
They save money immediately with Stack's non-guaranteed deal. Carroll's deal is long, but for only 3.5 mill a year.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE MAVS:
They add a 20ppg 2G to bolster the backcourt in JRich. He would give them another good shooter and a good wingman to pair with Howard. Dudley is a versatile wing who would add depth to the bench.

Trade no.3 (between Phoenix & New Orleans)

Suns get:
Tyson Chandler

Hornets get:
Ben Wallace

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS:
With Stack's contract coming off the books immediately, they'd have the room to take on the extra year of Chandler's contract. He and McGee would make a potent frontcourt combo.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HORNETS:
Salary dump. Plain and simple.

Trade no.3 (between Phoenix & New Jersey)

Suns get:
Eduardo Najera
future 2nd round pick

Nets get:
DeShawn Stevenson

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS:
Najera adds decent depth to the frontcourt.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE NETS:
With Vince gone, they could use a vet 2G to help in the backcourt.

NEW SUNS ROSTER:

PG-Steve Nash/Mike James/Goran Dragic
SG-Nick Young/Leo Barbosa/Matt Carroll
SF-Earl Clark/Louis Amundsun/Sasha Pavlovic
PF-Tyson Chandler/Eduardo Najera
C-Javale McGee/Robin Lopez

My only problem with this is that I can't see Steve Nash wanting to stay if they head in this direction.

We're not giving up Dudley to get rid of J-Rich.

Of course we love it!

The other issue is the missing 2010 1st.

Is there a three way Amare deal out there somewhere which gets the Suns their 1st back & gets the notSonics an elite center?
notSonics 2016
Starters - Trey, Roberson, KD, Ibaka, Adams
Rotation - Payne, Waiters, Green, McGary, Kanter
Bench - Collison, Christon, Brodgon, Huestis
Stash - Johnson, Abrine
Cut - Morrow
Trade - Singler
Draft - Brogdon
FA - Green

That should be obvious. With all this dismantling the Suns would skip the Dallas segment. Otherwise they have hardly any scoring punch.

Nets decline.

The Nets used Dooling and Harris together at the same time a lot last year. With Rafer on the roster, you could very well see Dooling even more at the SG spot this year. The need for a backup SG isn't big enough to justify the $1.1 million cap hit in 2010/11.
