Bibby agrees to 3 year deal!

Post#1 » by fo_o_fo_404 » Tue Jul 7, 2009 12:55 pm

According to AJC's Sekou Smith....it's worth $18 million!

Sund has done it again....now if we can get Zaza to resign and get a serviceable big man, this will be a successful summer!

I think it's a good signing. That is about the most I would have paid for Bibby. We can always trade him for an upgrade later if one is available. Despite any of his flaws it's better to get him back for a reasonable price so a young team can have a veteran starting point guard, and the front office can retain his trade value for a later date if needed.

It's a reasonable price tag. Good stuff.

Great job by Sund. I wanted no part of Bibby when people here were talking about 3 years and 25 million dollars but for 3 years and 18 million (even if that last year is a PO) then I think its a great move. I always thought that unless the hawks were willing to signficantly exceed the MLE that he would end up taking a deal with a contender- glad to see him be willing to sign a reasonable contract here.

Very solid price. The team is starting to shape up. Now bring back marvin.

Very good signing, that means for the next three years we will only be investing 7.5-8.5 mil in our starting and backup point guards combined. My wishlist is now down to Marv, Zaza, Wilcox, Siler

Yes, those numbers don't crimp you going forward. Getting Bibby to take a 60% pay cut is a good move.
As I thought before, it would be similar to the Rasheed deal who also had to accept a major pay cut.
I don't think AI has it in him to take such a hit. We have probably seen the last of him unless a Houston or Phoenix just gets desperate to take on his personality.

Without Bibby the Hawks would be pretenders, not contenders.

Much better price than I expected. No complaints with this move. Great job and kudos to Bibby for being reasonable.

Great move for Hawks.

Hawks fans gotta love that Bibby came back, likely for less than he could have gotten elsewhere; even after the team brought in Craw and their PG first pick.

It appears that free agents want to be here. Excellent signing by Sund now that the deal totals 18 million.

Great news. Only 18 million, and it also settles our PG issue for a good while. This move should make us focus a lot more on getting Marvin back.

SWEET! I was totally convinced that without Bibby, a backcourt of Crawford and JJ would not take us to the playoffs (if you take into account that a lot of teams in the east should be better off next season, and that our offense would not have been as effective without Bibby).

I really like that. Wow. Now the Crawford deal is brilliant. We'll have another proven scorer to play 30 mins a night, and if JJ gets injured, he'll be our n1 scoring option.

I'm so relieved now... Plus, the price tag is really good imo.

Great, from both Sund and Bibby.

It's a big move to keep the core from last season and make new players (Crawford, and maybe more) being addition and upgrade, but not replacement.
And for that price, thanks Bibby (I was thinking he would ask more 7-8M or he would go for the MLE in a already contender team).

killbuckner wrote:(even if that last year is a PO)

If it's not a PO, it 'd avoid having both Bibby ad Crawford as F.A. in two years.

Let's hope Zaza and Marvin can agree to good contracts like that, leaving some room to add a big with MLE money. It will be hard, but it's doable.

Or if we keep Marvin for a decent contract, we could do a sign and trade of Zaza + Evans for a big with higher contract, now that Joe can play some SF. Would make a short bench, though.

Well done by both sides. We got Bibby for the next 3 years at a cheaper price than many(including me) thought. We get some security in place to let Teague learn. I don't think we have to worry about Teague being another Acie Law. I am sure Sund has already talk to Woodson about he better play Teague.

I'm pretty shocked that Bibby signed for only MLE money this early in the free agency process with us. I wasn't a huge advocate of keeping Bibby but I think it's pretty cool that he wanted to stay with the Hawks(as opposed to ring chasing) even on a greatly reduced salary.

So much for Chad Ford saying that we can "kiss Bibby goodbye" after the Crawford trade that took place when we were supposedly offering Josh Smith to anyone that would take him.

I like it. I will admit I'm not the biggest Bibby fan, and that I really wanted no part of him at 3 years/$25, but at $18 mil this is a very reasonable pickup, and something I can live with. I'd still prefer Kidd, but at least we'll retain our core from last year (I'm assuming Marvin extends), and we have a mentor for Teague.

but were not contenders with him either!
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

What available PG would have made the Hawks contenders? Seems like a dubious argument.
