Shawn Marion 5 YEAR 40 MIL

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Thu Jul 9, 2009 1:50 am

This is just in Shawn will sign a 5 year 40 mil contract. Let's be honest Marion has accomplished more then Odom has in his career. So if Marrion can not get 10 mil a season what makes Lamar think Lakers will throw 10 mil at him?

It's a great pick up for Dallas and it will keep it interesting

Dallas is #4, #5 next year? Great pickup for Dallas..but their title hopes dont seem any more bolstered. Nowitzki is still balls-out amazing...but it's not enough???

No way it's enough. That team is very weak, they don't have any power players.

Another signing that hurts LO's stance, Marion's been an ALL STAR while LO hasn't but LO has that ring and has been further in the playoffs so it's a even trade off as far as accomplishments goes.

Marion has accomplished more, but that doesn't make him worth more now. Odom is younger and less of a problem player. He's more versatile, and more concerned with winning than his paychecks.

1st year: 6.2 mil

Odom better wake up to the new economic realities for a 30yo 6th man.

10 mil is way out of line and with Matrix's 6.2, now 8 mil seems pretty generous.

Yeah I agree, I think this will bring Odom to senses and hopefully we can get past this little dilemma

3 years, 22.5M is what I would offer for LO take it or gtfo ;). Max 3 years, 24M.

8.3 for 6 years for Side Show Bob? Wow that's a bad contract. The kid works hard but he's no 8.3 a year player. FTW is CLE doing?

Why did CLE try to get LO for that kinda money, dumb management decision, they aren't winning shi*. There coach doesn't even diagram plays, lol. Destined for nothing.

I think Marion's deal will only justify even more to Lamar [in his mind] that he is worth more than $8 million a season.

When the Lakers matched up in the playoffs with the Suns those couple of years, everyone said Lamar pwned Shawn. People would suggest trading Lamar for Shawn, and the reactions were somewhat even. Although, I remember more people argung in favor of keeping Lamar.

It's what have you done for me lately in the league and in this economy.
If Marion gets $8 million a season for playing in the East on a non-playoff team with no exposure.
WTH makes you think Lamar won't want to make significantly more for being on the champion Lakers.

I'm not saying he should or shouldn't make the $10 million he wants.
I justs rongly disagree that Marion's deal make Lamar "realize" he's worth less.
We're used to Mitch being frugal and basically taking the pot in negotiations nowadays.
Maybe it's time to lose a lil' one for winning the big picture.

I agree. Dallas has no power players. Bass, but even he's contemplating leaving.
I don't think this is an effective signing for Dallas, unless Howard misses time again.

At the same time Anderson Varjao got 40 mill for 6 years from the Cavs which is considerably over market value when he had no other suitors, so we'll see what happens.

Marion can't succeed without Nash. I would say he's just more athletic than Lamar but Lamar could do anything.

Well I think this only proves Odom should get 8-10 million now. Odom is better then Marion. Also Andy V just got a 50 million dollar contract so Odom should get from us 40-50 million dollars. He needs to except 40 million though because he said he would take less money. Well guess what we signed Artest and Brown and are now way over the cap and you said you would take less so at least sign a deal that maybe pays 7 million this year with a salary bump to 9 and 10 next year.
I hate Odom for this and really wish we didnt need him. To bad we can't count on Bynum.

You are focusing on the wrong things, total dollars and avg.

First, Marions deal has a team option so the value is not what it seems and we don't know what AVs has in it.

Second, starting value is what is most important right NOW to getting Odom signed. If 30 yo 6th men of similar skill and accomplishment, or good younger role starting Fwds are getting between 5.7 and 6.8 in year ones, like Marion, Villanueva, Ariza, Varejao and Bass/Millsap will get, I think the market is set.

A deal starting at 7 is very fair. The only two guys getting Paid (excessively) this summer are Ben Gordon and Hedo, both of whom are expected to be 20+ scorers and end of game shot takers / makers.

I offer, 4yr/32.5, final offer, 7 / 7.7/ eto 8.5/ team op 9.3
If LO thinks he can get better in summer '12 than 8.5 he can opt out, if not he stays and then the team can decide in '13.
