Facilitating a Boozer deal
paul millsap's signed an offer sheet from portland, and utah is going to be hard pressed to match with carlos boozer on board. they have to unload boozer's salary if they want to match the offer, and the only way they can lower their figure significantly is by involving a team with cap space. expiring contracts will not help the tax figure.
i think okc could get a lot of value out being the third party in a boozer trade, either acquiring draft picks or maybe a center.

Re: Facilitating a Boozer deal
Bulls poster. Bulls are interested in getting Boozer, and are wondering whether the Thunder might be interested in getting involved on the following terms:
OKC: Tyrus Thomas
Bulls: Phoenix's first round pick in 2010
Tyrus is due to be paid $4.7 million next year. He is the same year as Thabo, so OKC would have the same options with Tyrus as they would Thabo (extension, QO, renounce him).
This would clear cap space for the Bulls and give us a pick that we could send to Utah for Boozer.
Interested?

I like Tyrus... I'm just not sure I'd want to give up an unprotected pick that could very well be in the lottery for him. If we could put top 10 protection on it (and top 10 protection on the future pick we'd give you if the first one ends up being top 10), then I'd be into it.

Re: Facilitating a Boozer deal
i think tyrus would be a great fit on this team... i'm unsure whether he's worth that phoenix pick, but it's close imo. people tend to over value draft picks.
i think i'd do it. thomas has enough potential to warrant this kind of trade. i don't think any of our big men are better than him either, especially at blocking shots.

Thanks for the responses.
Let's say Utah wants the pick so it can sell it, so it needs it unconditionally. Tyrus has been working out like a fiend all summer, and has huge upside. Made great strides last year. Provides shot blocking that you guys lack. Interested?

Re: Facilitating a Boozer deal
i heard OKC signed their rookies, how far below the cap are they? I'm worried Utah and OKC will push Portland out of the boozer trade. If Portland can't give Utah the most cap savings, then our summer capspace plan may yield nothing

Re: Facilitating a Boozer deal
They have 9 mil in current cap space.
The Thunder could easily trade any one or a combination of Collison, Watson, Wilkins and Atkins to get it done.
Collison has two years left on his contract while Watson, Wilkins and Atkins are all expirings and Atkins is only partially guaranteed.
If they did trade Collison and one of the other three it would also open up more cap room for the Thunder come 2010.

I dont think tha Preti helps Utah in any way.
Doesn't seem like Preti and O'Connor (is that his name?) seem to get in eachother ways and don't seem friendly.

Why would the jazz need to give up the new york pick? That makes no sense....The thunder dont even deserve that for what their giving up

The Jazz NYK 2010 Pick is probably the only thing that's get the Thunder to help them. Without it, I'd think they'd just be happy to see Utah get screwed financially.
Go team! (The one I want to win, preferably)

What they are giving up is about 13 million in capspace and Utah gets an unguaranteed 3.4 milion dollar contract. Utah swaps 1sts from NY to CHI

Re: Facilitating a Boozer deal
I wouldn't mind taking on Boozer, and perhaps even trying to trade him at the deadline. Maybe give them Watson or Collison and take on the other half of his salary? Could be a nice way to test if going after a Bosh/Amar'e type would be worth it. Even if the Thunder were to keep him, he's a quality starter!
