Pistons get Chris Wilcox

Post#1 » by statisback » Sun Jul 19, 2009 4:16 am

WTF was Kerr and Sarver doing?? Wilcox gets picked up by the Pistons for just 6 mill over 2 years!
Man.. we couldnt afford him?? He is a great rebounder and physical presense. I cant believe the Suns didnt go after him... another messed up decision by Kerr/Sarver. Keep their resume going....

With Channing, Amare, and Hill/Dudley this is going to be a very weak rebounding team. Wilcox wouldve really helped

Channing Frye is the better player and the Suns got him for 1M less per year. Wilcox can't play center and is less of an offensive player than Frye.

Read back what you just said and tell me you still stand by your statement...

Channing is my dude but Wilcox is definitely the better player.

I like Wilcox also but when I meant better I meant versatile. Wilcox is a pure PF while Frye can play both PF and center. There's also not much difference between their stats, in Wilcox's best year he averaged something like 14/8 and Frye had 12/5, Frye is also one year younger.

Nope I still stand by that statement. Frye has a midrange jumper and he's money when left open while Wilcox has no offensive game, he's basically like a poor mans Amare before Amare developed the jumpshot.

I used to watch that kid ball in Seattle in high school he was incredible, then once he got drafted the hype stopped... He'd be an okay bench player but i'd rather let Dudley develope behind Hill. Is Marv a unrestricted FA?

I believe he is a restricted free agent. The Suns would have little need for him though as we have Clark, Hill, and Dudley.
Marvin Williams will most likely stay in Atlanta. He is better than a bench player, I'd say he is a solid sixth or seventh man.
He isn't a bad player, he is just criticized because he was chosen over Chris Paul, if he was drafted after CP3 he wouldn't have so much to live up to.

Also I will agree. I think Channing Frye is better than Chris Wilcox. At least a better fit for our team. Chris Wilcox also has health issues I'd be worried about. He isn't much of a shot blocker either. Channing Frye is taller and has a longer wingspan than Wilcox. I'll take Frye, and his cheaper contract.

While Chris Wilcox does have a stronger frame and crashes the board, I simply think Frye is a better fit for us.

I'm not doubting that Frye fits with Phoenix, but we DO need someone with a strong frame who crashes the boards. We're going to get ABUSED this year on rebounding, and we're going to fail because of it. We fans are going to tear our hair out.

I am sure Wilcox was on the Suns list...

but , IMO, the strategy for filling the roster is to wait it out to where the players that are left will sign for 1 yr, cheap, just to get a paycheck.

No player options, no 2 - 3 yr deals.... they'll round it out, and hopefully with a decent big guy...

i think wilcox fits perfectly to detroit- and wouldn´t fit n our system. we need a steven hunter like guy, someone who runs the floor, plays d, gets the boards and some block shots...

Props to the great one

Eh. I'm not losing one ounce of sleep over Wilcox. We don't need him. Lou and Clark need to develope. At some time, you have to add youth into the mix. We have players that need to develope. Everyone wants to put some has-been or never-was in front of them, why??

Thank you! I'd much rather see Clark out there developing than have Wilcox stealing his minutes. I'd also like to point out that he didn't fit D'antoni's system. So what makes you think he could fit ours?

Suns roster.

Steve Nash-6'3
Goran Dragic-6'4
Leandro Barbosa-6'3
Jason Richardson-6'6
Sasha Pavlovic-6'8 *
Grant Hill-6'8
Earl Clark-6'10
Jared Dudley-6'7
Channing Frye-6'11
Alando Tucker-6'6
Lou Amundson-6'9
Amare Stoudemire-6'10
Robin Lopez-7'0

I think we have a pretty solid team.
Notable free agents left: Flip Murray, Mikki Moore, Leon Powe, Stephon Marbury, Joe Smith, Wally Szczerbiak, Gerald Green, Anthony Carter, Walter Hermann, Von Wafer, Fred Jones, Brian Skinner, Luther Head, Keith Bogans, Damon Jones, Melvin Ely, Sean Marks, Desmond Mason, Tyron Lue, Kareem Rush, Stromile Swift, Bobby Jackson, Rashard McCants, Drew Gooden, Brevin Knight, Juan Dixon.

And there are a few more I did not list.
The Suns are for sure not done. I would like for them to pursue Stromile Swift and Bobby Jackson. Gerald Green and Wally would be kind of nice but I think our SF position is already filled. When motivated, Stromile Swift can play. Bobby Jackson knows how to handle the pressure of the playoffs so he would be nice backup.

Just get Kurt Thomas and finish this offseason on a high note.

Return to Phoenix Suns
