RealGM Fantasy Keeper League

Alright. So for anyone who is interested in joining, I think it will take a team effort to get everything set up and if we start now, it will give us plenty of time to finish this before the season starts.

First things first. If our managers are made up of everyone who took place in last years Fantasy Hockey League on Yahoo, do you want to allow managers to keep certain players from that season or do you want to just start fresh this season? I would prefer to start fresh.

As for the amount of teams, I'm thinking of 12. It has to be even because this will be a head to head league. Plus with an even number, as for trades, I'm thinking we should do a veto system. The 2 teams involved in the trade won't be part of the veto system as well as the commish. That way, it will leave an odd amount of owners voting.

As for the amount of players per team, it will depend on how many teams we have. I was thinking of doing 9 forwards, 4 defensemen and 2 goalies.

For the rules:
I would like to do a salary cap type league. I think that would make it more interesting and would make the owners think about who they want.

For the players you are allowed to keep, I think it should be no more then 3. When the first season is finished, for your keeper players, you can sign then to a certain amount of time. Once that time comes up, you determine if you want to keep them. If not, then they go back into the draft. If you want to keep them, you have to re-sign them. Now, after the 2nd season is finished, if you signed a player the previous year to a contact to designate him as a keeper player and you no longer want him, you will have to waive him back into the draft pool. If you waive a player, I think it would be fair to have a penalty for the player taken off of your cap for the remaining amount of time you signed him for that contract.

IE. You just signed John Taveres to a 4 yr deal last season and you want to get rid of him this year. You can, but you will have a waiver penalty counting against your cap for the remaining 3 yrs.

For players that aren't considered keeper players, the will be signed for a 1 year deal. This is where it will get difficult. When you draft a player and when the season starts and you want to release him to pick up a new player, how are we going to get this to work. Certain amount of waivers allowed per team? When a player gets waived, and a team wants to pick him up, will the contract he was signed for at first be the amount the new team will be required to pay?

I would also like to have a keep a player, lose a pick. IE, you keep a player you drafted first, you lose your next years 2nd round pick. Keep a 3rd round pick, lose 4th round pick next season, etc....

Just some of the stuff I came up with. Feel free to join in.

I know what you're thinking. We're in the middle of a city, what's a hawk doing there?

I like the thoughts. We should start fresh this year. I like the salary cap thing as well.
