Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
Alrighty, Team Snakebites selects (big shocker, I know) Michael Jordan! The only man responsible for a dynasty that DIDN'T require a top notch big man.

What more can you say about the guy. Greatest player of all time. Was the greatest of his time in virtually every facet of the game, on both sides of the ball. The man was a god. He's also the most marketable player in NBA history, and a player who brought new fans into the game more than any other. I would have been crazy, even being a Bull-hater in the day, not to take him.
I will take the years of his first 3-peat as my years. There were more statistically impressive seasons earlier in his career, but I chose these years because he won championships in each one. By this point he had figured out how to win and taken his rightful place as king.
One of only two players to win multiple championships WITHOUT the help of another top 15 all time player.
90-91, 91-92, 92-93.
In the words of Magic Johnson: "There is Michael Jordan, then there's everyone else."

Utes Select Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain. Simple reason, he was the most dominant player to ever touch an NBA court.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
^Would have been my second choice for sure.
His stats are inflated given his era and he couldn't get past Russel without a certain "other" first round selection, but certainly incredible talent and worthy of the spot.
Its really tough to screw up the first couple of picks.
Fingerroll, I suggest you edit the title so that whoever is currently on the clock can be seen there.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
Whoops.
Jordan is not available in a trade unless you're ready to absolutely blow me away.
I had a fantasy draft once (with current players) and had the number one pick and everyone was trying to get it without giving up THEIR number 1 pick. That certainly won't play well here.

I think we should keep the discussion here, it's kinda cluttering the selections thread, and makes it somewhat more confusing to keep track of picks.
Draft has played as tune so far. No real surprises.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
Ah. I thought this was just for trade negotiations.
Thats fine.
Anyone else in favor of just doing a regular snake?
I regret proposing that altered order. He mentioned changing it, and I said "alright, if you're gonna do it, do it this way".
For veterans of these drafts, do the first few picks really have that overwhelming an advantage for something like that to be needed? I'd guess not.

I hate the draft order. There wouldnt be a huge advantage with just a snake for anyone....

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
I was originally against the draft order, but I've warmed up to it more. I'm really down either way. As for an overwhelming advantage, I wouldn't think so, maybe in a current draft, but in an All-Time, there isn't much a difference with the next pick coming up, or a selection made 4-6 picks later. The the first few picks do have an advantage though, I'm not sure if it's enough of an advantage of few teams not even having a 2nd round pick though.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
I understand your concerns, but I think the current way is more even. If you look just at the first two rounds, then, yes, the latter half of drafters surely have a significant edge. But it's much more even when round 3 is taken into consideration. The difference between a guy taken in the first half of round 1 and one taken in the second half of round 1 is greater than the difference of a player in the beginning of round 2 and one in the beginning of round 3. I'd even say that the difference between the top few guys drafted and those drafted near the end of round 1 is probably about even with the difference between players in the beginning of round 2 and those at the END of round 3.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
^It just seems like everyone is against the current system. And the more I think about it having Michael Jordan instead of, say, Shaq or Russel (either one will drop out of the top 7 at this point) isn't enough to justify the 20 pick drop I'll endure.
I think that not having a 2nd round pick at all punishes the early pickers too much.
Just reverse the order of the 3rd round and otherwise have it be a normal snake would be best IMO.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
Take, for example, slot #5 and slot #10.
5 has picks 5, 31, 38, 52.
10 has picks 10, 19, 24, 47.
The difference between 47 and 52 is very small in this sort of draft.
Yes, 19 and 24 is significantly better than 31 and 38, but I'd say that the difference between 5 and 10 makes up for that, or at least comes very close. And 5 has a slight edge for the remainder of the draft.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
Just do ABBA...It's been productive in the past. My getting the 5th best player then the thirtieth or so? That's a bit of an extreme punishment even with a supposed goat candidate.

So you're saying ABBABABABABA? It's not too late to change if there's an overwhelming majority to do so, but I'd like to see what you think about my last post first.

Re: All-Time Draft: Rosters and Trade Talks
^Compare the 8th pick with me, for instance.
Jordan is better than Shaq or Russel, but not so much to justify having the 35th and 42th picks instead of the 22nd and 23rd.
Thats not even close.
And yeah, I'd say give the 14th drafter the first pick in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds and me the last pick in those same rounds (with the first pick in round 5, of course).

Very good anecdotal evidence...I think it's overcompensating.
