This is bad. If he isn't traded at the deadline, I think he'll be moved in the offseason.

"I think I made this clear real early that Doc wanted to test the free-agent market," Ricciardi said. "I think we said that all along. That's the whole reason we're going down this avenue."
Did JP really make this clear before?? Doc told JP he wants to test free agency.
If this is the case, trade the mofo.

Yes, JP did make that clear. Beeston then said he was going to talk to him, but obviously had the same result.
This doesn't mean Roy is gone, it just means there will be no home town discount if we keep him.

If Halladay tests free agency hes as good as gone. Once teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers throw him more money they we can and a oppurtunity to win, he will be gone so fast. If you think hes going to turn down all these other teams to come back to the jays, I think your quite delusional.
If he wanted to stay longterm why would he even want to test free agency? Does he want to see how much hes worth and how much other bigdog teams want his services to just come back to the bluejays?
Halladay saying he will test free agency is basically him saying that if hes still a jay at the end of his current contract, he will be going somewhere else.

Re: Halladay doesn't want an extention
People are probably gonna freak out and blame Halladay for wanting to test the free agent market, who can blame him. He's put in ten years here, put faith in management to build a winner and they still haven't delivered. He's watched ownership hang on to JP 5 years longer than he should have been here. This guy has constantly set targets, failed to deliver and constantly moved that target, his plans changed. Ownership gave him huge money to go and build a winner and he still couldn't do it. People will blame Doc, but the problem with the Jays is not Doc, it's JP, the worse GM ever. I have no faith that he will get fair value for Doc if the Jays trade him.
I for one am so sick of this franchise. They are now trying to spin it and make it look like Doc is the bad guy so they can save face. I will be a Doc fan, no matter what team he ends up on. I'm holding out hope he'll stay but that clearly does not look like it will happen now. He's the only thing about this franchise that makes me tune in to a Jays game.

I still follow the Jays and hope they do well. I'm not as big of a baseball fan compared to other sports but I sill watch the Jays when I can. But when Doc pitches, I try not to miss those games at all.

Re: Halladay doesn't want an extention
No one will blame Doc. The blame goes squarely to Rogers, who isn't willing to pony up the $120M or so it takes to compete.
And what makes it extra-disheartening is Rogers isn't even complaining to MLB about the system. Rogers is satisfied with their $25M stadium and 18 games per year of higher attendances.
Fans need to wake up and realize we've become the KC Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates. Our only chance year over year is to fluke out and win.

Halladay saying he will test free agency is basically him saying that if hes still a jay at the end of his current contract, he will be going somewhere else.
He wants to test FA to find out how much money he is worth, and to have a chance to move to a winning team if he doesn't think that will be us in 2011 and on.
You are assuming teams will be throwing more money at him than we can. But everything the Jays have said, and most things they've done (see: The Ridiculous Contract of Wells, Vernon), lead me to believe that if he goes into FA in with TO, they will be willing to match anything but the most insane (like 8 year, $200 million) contract. And while it will be big, I don't think he gets offered that much that long at his age. So then the question becomes a trade off of how good we are in comparison vs. how comfortable he is here. And comfort matters to Roy more than most players, I would bet.
Now, would I put money on him staying? Probably not. But I would wait to see if they make any moves this off-season before putting money against it.

Re: Halladay doesn't want an extention
The team is in no position to retain him. Granted, the Jays have had terrible luck for the past 3 seasons with a myriad of starters turning into flakes because of injuries. I can't imagine this team being much better than it is now unless we get a drastic change of luck. History suggests otherwise... probably until Wells and his salary is jettisoned from this roster. Of what little money Rogers is investing into the roster, it just doesn't seem like there's enough room for JP to do a whole lot unless it involves finding some value for our main attraction.
It looks as if years of frustration is coming to a peak on both sides (JP and Doc).

At this point as long as the Jays can get some good prospects I'll be happy. If they let him walk for nothing then i'll personally bash in JPs beak. Ok maybe not me but i'll get mustard tiger to do it
