Who will be the next celtics?
Before we got KG and Ray Allen we made a lot of moves that put us in position to do so. We stockpiled assets,; namely young players with potential. We made sure we had the expiring contracts to make these trades happen. So I wonder who is the next team to go from really bad to really good in one summer?

i don't think what we did had ever been done before. it was the biggest 1-season improvement ever, and the one we surpassed was the Spurs who landed Duncan and got David Robinson back.
That said, the Blazers just keep improving. they weren't too bad last year, but they may yet make a leap this year into the upper elite of the WC, right there with LA and SA. they've got the talent, and having a vet PG in Andre Miller makes them a lot more dangerous imo.

Not many teams are willing to spend like the Celtics are. I figure it'll be a while before a team does a overhall like the Celts did.
Edit: Also, with the success of Portland's youth, teams will try that cheaper route.

Re: Who will be the next celtics?
Portland has stockpiled alot of talent.
The problem is, who do you trade and who do you keep? There are alot of Binkies ( Fernandez, Bayless, Batum, Webster, Outlaw) on that team, who stays and who goes? If you could trade 2-3 of these assets for an All-star wing, Trailblazers would be set for a years.
Miller ( if signed) Roy, All Star Wing to be named, Aldridge and Oden/Pryzbilla could cause some harm in the playoffs,
But if they stay together, maybe all the binkies develop.
Decisions, Decisions.

Portland has some potential, but I think that people tend to overrate that team.
They have a lot of guys who can become a good 2nd, 3rd or 4th option on a good team.
And I also believe it's very hard to build a team the way they are doing, by drafting so many players. Someone will eventually get unhappy. Greg Oden also seems like he is not what people expected.
I'm just not a big fan of the Blazers.

Yeah, nex summers moves has a good chance of letting teams repeat what the c's did.
Let's say the knicks get wade, and the nets get lebron. Those teams jump up into contenders. Especially NJ.

Blazers are vastly overated , also there GM is kinda stupid
he could have improved the team much more had he went after lamar Odom, destroyed the lakers and make an improvement to there team

Re: Who will be the next celtics?
Washington had their chance to be the next us this past summer, but all they got out of their pick was Randy Foye and Mike Miller. They'll see a huge improvement if they stay healthy, but I wouldn't even consider them a sleeper for the championship, especially with the quality of the teams at the top right now.
We won in 2008 when the tides were turning a bit in the NBA. The Spurs, Mavs, Heat, and Pistons were on the decline and the Lakers, Cavs, and Magic were just on the increase and not nearly the teams they were last year. If anyone does it, their next chance is going to be next offseason, because the tides have the potential to change significantly again.
They could only offer him $8M per year, they weren't getting him to take a smaller offer to leave a championship team and a great city for Portland, a team that still doesn't have a defined identity yet.
To say Pritchard is even of only average intelligence when it comes to managing a team is ludicrous. It's amazing what he's put together over the past few years compared to what they were at the beginning of the decade and just before he took over.

People were saying the same thing about us (including many on this board) until Ainge flipped a lot of those young players for Ray and KG.
Just because they're stockpiling young talent doesn't mean that's how they are intending to build. You're right, Roy, Aldridge, and Oden are all good #2/#3 players. But they've got a lot of young talent to try to make a big move. Not sure they'll do it this year, but if they do, watch out.
