Hansbrough Set To Miss 1-2 Months

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 4:05 pm

The Indiana Pacers announced this morning that rookie and first-round draft choice Tyler Hansbrough will miss 6-8 weeks while recovering from an old college injury.

Hansbrough initially suffered a right shin injury during his senior year of college, according to the press release. The Pacers say the former Tar Heel will rest the shin for 6-8 weeks so he can remain healthy throughout the season.

The question is exactly what type of injury this is and how "lingering" of an injury is it? It didn't look like it affected him during the Orlando Summer League as he put on some good performances, but just add it to the list of Pacers players who have lingering injuries heading into the season. Hansbrough joins team stars Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy, Brandon Rush and Josh McRoberts as team members who have missed playing time or conditioning this summer due to injuries.

Good that he's doing it now. It's obviously something that he's been able to play through, so maybe with the rest he'll come back better than ever.

"Tyler Hansbrough could miss up to two months with a right shin injury, but the Indiana Pacers believe their first-round draft pick will be healthy enough for the start of the season."

my first reaction was an admittedly knee jerk Fbomb followed by me cursing my shrine to the AFROTOP.

after a minute I thought about it, this kid can play, rookies always hit a rookie wall, ask Roy Hibbert, not a big deal He'll probably be able to be in the weight room bench pressing and other upper body stuff, watching film, ect.

This seems like a "well we're not going to force him to work out because, XYZ so you won't see Tyler around the facility much the rest of the summer.", or "stop calling or we'll change the number."

What? Shin? How does one injure the shin? Is it like a bruise that just won't go away? It sounds like an uncommon injury.

Shin splints is a general term used to refer to a painful condition in the shins.[1] It is often caused by running or jumping or sprinting, and may be very slow to heal. A formal medical term for the condition is medial tibial stress syndrome.

This should not be that big of a deal....provided this is not the start of a pattern. Hansborough doesnt seem like an injury-prone player, but the Pacers better make sure he is 100 % before bringing him back - we actually have depth at the 4

come to think of it, do you think this Hansborough injury issue was the reason we used a roster spot on Solomon Jones, another PF?

That's what I was thinking earlier. They probably waited to announce the injury until they had time to introduce fans to King Jones, so that maybe we'd feel a LITTLE more comfortable about Psycho T missing time.

Okay, so after doing some research, it's a direct result of Hansbrough's super-intensity.

We picked up Solomon Jones for another body and a young player with some development, basically, since even without Tyler we still have a sufficient amount of PF's.

I bashed my shin on my trailer hitch on my truck a few years ago and it hurt for 6-8 months and I had a bump on my leg for the whole time that was touchy, there is not a lot of padding on your shin.

Sounds like the team is just being cautious at this point better now than in December. 8-)

Agreed about the intensity. 82 games is a marathon.
