Walters: Rubio for Gay should be an option

Post#1 » by Mcfale313 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 5:45 pm

http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_13185517

It will be interesting to see if the Timberwolves, in need of a legitimate small forward, make a run at Memphis' 6-8, 240-pound Rudy Gay, who can become a restricted free agent next summer and might not be affordable for the Grizzlies. Ricky Rubio could be worthwhile trade bait.
St. Paul Pioneer Press -- Charlie Walters

I'd trade Rubio and Songaila and Utah 1st for Gay and a second rounder/filler

EDIT: its not on wiretap

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... _rudy_gay/

The Timberwolves are in need of a versatile small forward, and Rudy Gay could be a viable option.

Gay, who can become a restricted free agent next summer, might not be affordable for the Grizzlies.

The Pioneer Press writes that Ricky Rubio might be a trade chip, but there would be sizeable hoops to jump through in order to make that happen.

That's a misleading title. The title should be Charlie Walters speculates.

Definitely misleading, Shooter's just doing what he does best, shoot off all kinds of speculation.

Not that this is legit, at all. But didn't Rubio say he didn't want to play for the Grizzlies? I don't think them trading to Zach Randolph is enough to change his mind.

it doesnt even say the team is interested, just that it will be interesting to see IF we decide to make a run. Horribly misleading and hardly a "source"

So far in todays paper I have only read the comics section. Good to know I will have another laugh ahead of me when I get to the sports page. I feel bad for those that only get their local sports news from hacks like this.

*Wasn't in the paper. Maybe tomorrow.

I think the source is Alex Kennedy.

I wouldn't even say that title is misleading. More like 100% false. Just rude if you ask me.

Stupid. We're not competing this year, and Rudy Gay will be a mid-tier free agent next season that MEM most likely won't match.

Even if we wanted Gay (and I'm not sure we do), why not wait until next year to try to get him, and keep Rubio?

Agreed, terrible trade idea by Shooter, man that guy's an idiot. If we want Rudy, we just sign him next year.

Shooter gets a sniff of something and runs with it.

Fact: we have been asking/talking about Gay most of the summer *
Shooter takes that and does whatever he wants with it. I doubt we are offering Rubio. I would be pissed if this was true.

*I do not like Gay as a player. I think he has got worse as a pro. I have explained why before. But we have been asking about him a bit.

If you read the article, it doesn't even sound like he got a sniff of something. He's just speculating.

no. realgm wiretap is in no way an indicator of true reports. This is and will continue to be false

*waits for the trade board to take this further than it needs to be.

There is something legit. It has been since pre-draft. But I doubt anything happens because the Grizz front office is pricky.

The wiretap cites the Pioneer press.
