
He has been bad for 2 years now though, and basically couldn't get past the 6th for Boston this year. He's never been a high innings guy but seems like he did have some decent starts in the middle of year. I do recall seeing him in a start this year and his velocity seems ok, around low 90s.
Looking into his stats more, it seems like most of the key ratios haven't dropped off too much, except he's giving up way more fly balls vs grounders, and just overall more hits and extra base hits, and that's a horrible sign for a power pitcher. But again, as long as he's not as bad as Martinez, I can live with his 5 inning starts, and maybe AT&T will play bigger then Fenway enough to hide Penny's shortcomings.
