Looks like Marbury may be calling it quits...

Post#1 » by King Of The 4th » Tue Sep 8, 2009 12:33 pm

Stephon Marbury posted a few comments on his Twitter page Monday that may indicate he's ready to call it a career.

Perhaps frustrated by the lack of interest he has drawn on the free agent market, Marbury pointed to the years he's spent in the NBA and the millions that he's earned.

"Basketball is just a game. I will say it again. 14 years 250 million. Hold that. I'm good. Thank you Jesus for the blessing. Thanks NBA," Marbury wrote late Monday night.

Well, so much for us signing him. Although I'm sure many of you are sighing in relief.

I still don't buy him not wanting to play. If he got offered anything, he'd take it. Big "if" though.

Damage control. No one wants him but he still wants to make it look like he's leaving on his own.

I agree.

I think he is just trying to save face.

Sure he is rich but what the hell is going to do? Smoke weed and embrass himself on Ustream? Actually that sounds okay.

But in all seriousness, who does he just hit the switch and shut off the competitive fire that quick? Don't buy it. He said during his Knick tenure that he would play in Italy, I think it may be a good time for him to look that direction.

I don't buy anything he says. I get the impression that he has a blackberry hooked up to a twitter and no agent or pr rep telling him not to say these kind of things. He seems to say what ever is on his mind so my guess is that he is upset that no one wants him and sulking on twitter. If he gets an offer he will take it.

He really is a hard call to make. I mean he has talent. Of all the free agents left after AI he is probably the most talented. But he also seems to insist on doing everything his way. I only see a team like us or SA or LA with a strong team concept in mind already being able to contain him and not have him explode.

It looks like if we want him we can probably wait till the last minute to get him and see if there are any better options. I get the feeling now that for the first time in a while I am going to be wrong on a prediction I made, that he would be back. I'll stand by it but I get the feeling that my streak may be over.

I agree... there's plenty of time...and a fair amount of options priced according to the demand....

We may not need any help if the players that we already have fill our needs at the point....

Marbury isn't leaving on his own terms. Nobody wants him. His plan was to catch on with the Celtics, play well and stay out of trouble.

Well, he stayed out of trouble but didn't play well. Then the summer came. Marbury didn't get any offers or offers that he liked. Then he started acting very strange after filming himself.

Marbury has had a great NBA career. This is a great time for him to move on. He mentioned he wanted to play overseas a few years ago. Well, here is his chance. Marbury needs to stop living in the past and move into the now. He should play over seas for a year and see if he likes it. He needs to enjoy life and give back and live a productive life and not get caught up. Best of luck to Marbury.

I can't see him playing overseas. Those comments were all BS so he could feel like he was in control. He talked about launching his shoes overseas, come on no one is even making them anymore in america.

He can probably wait till mid season and catch on with a team looking to win some playoff games and in need of a point.

It seems like his goal right now is just to stay in the headlines in a no press is bad press mentality.

Hemingway, it's becoming increasingly obvious that you have a man crush on Marbury. How about you marry him already?

Seriously though........ You got to give him props for that. He hustled a lot of teams over and made a lot of money for doing absolutely NOTHING. He was good but if you look at his achievements to the amount of money he made he didnt desrve ish, but he got paid for it. Cant hate on him for doing that, hell I'd do it if I could.

250 million, and I can almost guarantee he's going to go bankrupt in 2 years just like 60% of all NBA players do when they retire.

UStream retired this dude, not his loss of desire to play (or get paid for that matter)

It's not the money, it's the lifestyle. A lot of these guys can flush down millions in so short a time that 250 Million doesn't seem like so much.
